Juanita Rosa just turned 85 on Monday.

The family tells FOX 9 that she was at breakfast with her two sons, then went home to take a nap. That’s the last time she was seen.

Investigators say Rosa didn’t take main highways often.

"She took a lot of back roads. So that's what's making it really difficult for us, because we have so many back roads," said Scott Grice, Pine County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy.

Sunday morning, community members joined friends and family searching near Rosa's home on Highway 23 in Hinckley, where she lives with family.

Juanita Rosa, 85, was last seen Monday, which was her birthday. Kelly Carey, Rosa's granddaughter, told WCCO she is lucid.

"Her cell phone has been dead since Aug. 1. She doesn't use credit cards, the OnStar in her car is 2G so it's no longer traceable," said Carey.

The Pine County Sheriff's Office says there are no signs of foul play, and believe Rosa drove off on her own and may be lost.

Unfortunately the decline in driving skills at that age can happen so suddenly, literally in a few weeks a person can go from navigating the easy routes to getting lost. I saw that with two elderly parents, who had to have driving privileges removed at age 82 and 86 respectivelty.

The family tells FOX 9 that investigators say they have seen pings from her cell phone about an hour away.

*****
The family says that on Aug. 6, Juanita Rosa's cell phone was showing a location in Superior, Wisconsin.

Two of the pinged locations were at Holy Assumption Catholic Church and Bryant Elementary School.

*****
"I have to say, we're all shocked. We would have never thought that she would have gone that far, gotten that far. We have no clue what she could be doing in Superior," said Lindsay Greenlee, Juanita’s granddaughter.

The family is offering up a $5,000 reward for a tip that would lead to finding Juanita Rosa.

So sorry to hear this, found 75 miles away. I'm regularly saying it here, from personal experience, but if you have older loved ones, please regularly check on their driving skills. Just because they could get around one month doesn't mean they can today. After age 80 (and earlier with dementia or other cognitive issues) the driving skills can go SO quickly. I found out after my Dad, who had NO dementia but was in his late 80's, and who normally drove with ease around his tiny town (no freeway driving was allowed), was found 350 miles away, safe, but scared after he picked up a (harmless) hitchhiker and drove him to a major city and didn't know how to get home.

Rest in Peace, Juanita.
