An investigation is underway after the body of a 70-year-old woman was discovered inside a garbage bag in a Bronx apartment.

Officials made the gruesome discovery Thursday afternoon in an apartment building on the Grand Concourse.

Authorities say the victim was visiting family in the Bronx, but she did not live in the United States.

Her lifeless body was found in a garbage bag inside the apartment.

A neighbor says she called for help when she knew someone was in danger.

"Like the way she was screaming ... something was wrong like someone was injured or dying so I feel like I had to call police," Alyssa Thurlby said. "I feel sorry for their family because that's not right."

Cops responding to a 911 call to the Grand Concourse apartment near E. 140th St. in Mott Haven found the woman stuffed in a black garbage bag.
Building residents said the woman’s death was unsettling.

“It kind of spooked me out because I’m like I don’t even know what’s going on,” said Temi Cruz, 30, who has lived in the building with her toddler son since January. “And it’s just me here with my son. I didn’t hear anything. So it’s kind of scary. Really scary.”

Neighbor Juan Muneton, 41, said he had seen the woman before.

“I saw her once,” he said. “My neighbor told me it was her. She lives on the third floor. She said ‘hi, have a good day,’ that’s it. She seemed normal, she seemed OK.”

He said activity in the building often attracts police.

“This building is supposed to be a luxury building but it’s not,” he said. “The amenities are not even finished.”

Listed amenities include a fitness center, yoga studio, golf simulator and screening room.

Wild. Her family did this to her? How awful. I'm curious, when did the neighbor call the cops versus the cops arriving? It's weird that the cops were called because of screaming but the deceased was already in a garbage bag when police arrived? Scary.

At first I thought it was this case below, but it's not. Different age and circumstances, and Bronx instead of NYC. This woman also came from overseas (Spain), and was killed by squatters.
