She is Associate Professor of Education at Eastern Oregon University, Gresham Campus.

Dr. Lee Ann McNerney is an Associate Professor of Education at Eastern Oregon University at the Gresham campus. She grew up in Woodburn, Oregon and was a part of the first pilot Bilingual Education program in Oregon. At the age of 6 she began learning Spanish. She holds a B.A. in Spanish from Portland State University, a M.A. from Columbia University Teachers College in Bi-lingual Education and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Georgetown University. She has lived and worked in three different Spanish speaking countries. She served in the Peace Corps for two and half years in the Dominican Republic. She is the author of “Classroom Writing Activities for K-12 and Adult Second Language Learners” and “Creating a Multi-Cultural, Student-Centered Classroom.” She is also doing research on brain injured adults whose speech has been impacted by Aphasia. Her extra- curricular activities include traveling abroad, reading, swimming, camping, and watching sports on television. She also volunteers in Spanish speaking organizations.

This is an interesting article about her from 2007:

I wonder if she is still teaching or if she is on leave. Probably the latter IMO.

This is the area, she went missing from. At the intersection there is a gas station hopefully with, cctv. There is also a motel.

What was she doing away, from home at 6.30 am? According to public records she lives a 9 mins drive from there in Tualatin

On Thursday, August 7, Wilsonville Police said they had found McNerney deceased in a grassy area off Interstate 5.

“At this time, no foul play is suspected,” Tigard Police said. “The death investigation is being conducted by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and Wilsonville Police Department.”

My first thought is she was hit by a car, but wouldn't a hit-and-run be "foul play?" jmo

Sorry for the outcome. Rest in peace, Lee Ann.

What a sad story and outcome. she experienced such adversity prior to this.
The question of how and why she was this far from home at 6am does remain....
but we are unlikely to get answers this late...

Such a sad outcome. As to your question. "Foul play" normally refers to "criminal violence or activity that results in serious damage or injury, especially murder," and is generally reserved for incidents of a more intentional, malicious nature, (implying pre-meditation or deliberate wrongdoing.) The "hit" part of "hit and run", may not have been pre meditated OR deliberate, therefore it wouldn't likely be considered "foul play. Leaving the scene however IS a crime, if the driver was aware of the impact, and if the person was impaired, driving unlicenced or recklessly, etc you could be looking at manslaughter charges, but the death itself wouldn't be classified initially as "foul play" by the Medical Examiner.
