South Carolina Elementary School Teacher and 2 Young Children found Dead in Suspected Double Murder-Suicide
A South Carolina teacher and her two children were found dead in their own home late last month from what authorities now believe was a double murder-suicide.

On Aug. 31, 2022, at around 1:30 p.m., Horry County Police responded to a home in the census-designated place of Carolina Forest in order to perform a welfare check on 42-year-old Laura Moberley.
Arriving officers entered the home and found the woman dead along with her two children, 11-year-old Eric Moberley, and 8-year-old Emily Moberley. Each one had been shot to death, according to a report by the Horry County Coroner’s Office obtained by The Post and Courier.
The coroner’s report reportedly said the fatal violence likely occurred at around 6:00 a.m. on the day in question.

Moberley served as Reading Loss Interventionist teacher at the Carolina Forest school, where she was hired in 2018.
Emily was a third grader at the school, while Eric, a seventh grader, attended the Ten Oaks Middle School in the Horry County School District.

The officers were conducting a welfare check at the house when they found the three people dead inside.
HCPD said they worked with Horry County Fire Rescue, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Child Fatality Unit and Horry County Coroner’s Office to investigate the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, said HCPD. Investigators said do not believe that there is any threat to the community. No further information has been released.

Records from family court and the South Carolina Department of Social Services show a legal order of separation was filed in June.
Records from family court show a legal order of separation was filed by Laura Moberley’s husband, William, on June 13.
The latest filings were dated August 30, the same date on which a temporary hearing was scheduled. Records show Laura Moberley filed for financial declaration while an affidavit and report was also filed by a guardian ad litem assigned to the case.
Records also show the presiding judge issued a temporary consent order on Tuesday, but the specifics of that order were not immediately available.
