Jim Davis was working at The Pantry, a convenience store in Myrtle Beach, when he was shot and killed during a robbery in October 2003. Police are still looking for his killer after 21 years. Shawn Davis
''Jim Davis wasn’t supposed to be working that October day. He had traded shifts with another co-worker so he could be at his son’s surprise 16th birthday party. The 43-year-old had worked that early-morning shift many times since he started as a clerk at The Pantry, a convenience store in Myrtle Beach. But at 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 23, 2003, just a few hours into his work day, Davis was shot and killed. As he lay there dying on the floor behind the counter, whoever pulled the trigger then robbed the cash register, taking $43 – all that was in the drawer – and fled the store.''
While police believe the motive was a robbery, Shawn has considered other scenarios. Was it mistaken identity? Or, maybe it was because his father was gay. “I don’t know if they were homophobic,” Shawn said.''
