The Federal Bureau of Investigation is inquiring about threats made against SpaceX’s Starbase facility near Boca Chica Beach in Brownsville, the San Antonio Express-News reported. According to the bureau, several individuals have threatened to blow up a Starship rocket near the facility.

The agency’s San Antonio field office confirmed it is examining “possible bomb threats in South Texas in recent weeks.”

The San Antonio Express-News stated that a witness near the SpaceX launch site mentioned discussions about the threats taking place on Christmas Eve.

This marks at least the second reported bomb threat against Starbase in recent weeks. On Dec. 27, 2023, a bomb threat was reportedly made to SpaceX from a nonemergency Brownsville Police Department phone line, a sheriff’s deputy reported. The caller allegedly stated, “the bomb was on a rocket, and then advised it was on a spaceship.” That incident was referred to the FBI for further investigation.

On Friday, Jan. 3, a SpaceX Falcon 9 is set to launch Space42’s Thuraya-4 geostationary telecommunications satellite, as noted in a Federal Aviation Administration operations plan advisory. Additionally, SpaceX aims to launch its next Starlink broadband satellite on Sunday afternoon from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, according to the FAA.

Starship is seen on its launch pad early Nov. 19 behind an entrance to SpaceX’s Starbase near Boca Chica Beach. The FBI and Cameron County Sheriff’s Department are investigating apparent threats to SpaceX’s Starbase facility

The investigation comes as SpaceX is working toward a possible Jan. 10 test flight of its second-generation Starship, which is slightly taller than earlier versions. The lower-stage booster is on its launch pad, where testing has been underway since last month.

The commercial space company’s South Texas operation has been thrust into the national spotlight recently as CEO Elon Musk has become a key adviser to President-elect Donald Trump. He joined Musk, other politicians and government officials at Starbase in November to watch Starship’s sixth flight.

2025 needs a reset, and it's only the third day of the year.

CNN online March 6, 2025 article by Ashley Strickland and Jackie Wattles entitled ‘SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft explodes midflight for a second time’:

This appears to be the second such recent occurrence. And have to acknowledge that space flight and rocketry is a risky venture. But have to wonder if some investors, SpaceX, and governmental officials, such as NASA, might have concern that Musk perhaps should be paying closer attention to the operations of his entities? If anyone suggested that, it would be difficult to disagree.

Also wonder whether any of these developments might unfortunately affect attempts to retrieve the two astronauts from the Internal Space Station (ISS)? MOO
