''Missing Ali Durrani with his mother Mahjabeen, who fears his disappearance will become a cold case
A mother has said she fears the disappearance of her son will "become a cold case".

Ali Durrani, from Stirchley in Birmingham, has not been seen by his family for 120 days. He went missing one evening in February, and was last seen talking to a woman at a bus stop.

Relatives believe it is extremely out of character for the 32-year-old, who vanished "completely out of the blue" after telling his family he was going for a walk.''

''Ms Durrani added her son, who studied economics at the University of York, had told her he was going out for a walk to clear his head.''

''But Mr Durrani did not return and was last seen talking to a woman at a bus stop in Turves Green, Northfield, at about 17:25 GMT on 6 February.''

''He was last seen wearing a green raincoat with black jeans and lace up brown shoes.
Neither his bank or social media accounts have been used and his passport was left at home.''

That's a long time to be missing, shame it's not been in the media more. Although I suspect this is a case of suicide, telling his family he was going for walk. Not wanting the burden of them finding him. I could be wrong, I'm just aware of a lot of men struggling to seek help and ultimately thinking that suicide is the only way out of their pain. It's really sad :(

Ali was the kindest guy alive and super smart. We need to assist in anyway we can, this doesn’t make sense and is very out of character.

He wasn’t the type to stop and talk to strangers at a bus stop.

Police say they are still investigating but what does that mean, is there anything we can do?

local fb groups are often useful to get more local eyes open - worth a try?

have we spoken to the last person to see him?

WHO saw him talking to a woman at a bus stop????

  • #8
Can we confirm WHAT bus stop he was apparently seen at & recover the internal CCTV footage that buses now have from the buses that stopped here on Feb 6th?

Surely this is the first obvious starting point?
If we see him board a bus, at least we can track the next port of call.

Five months ago, 32-year-old Ali Durrani, grabbed his phone and cap, told his mum Mahjabeen that he was going out to clear his head and left his home in south-west Birmingham.

*****
Lengthy article

Have they looked at CCTV on the route from Ali's home to the bus stop sighting?
Have they checked places he would go? If he attends his local mosque, has anyone spoken to people who attend, the Imam or others?

Have they interviewed university tutors, classmates, friends, or other staff members? Was he doing ok academically? Worried about exam results ?
I have not read all the articles on Ali's disappearance, so please excuse if I am duplicating.

Finally and God forbid, have they looked at any areas of water, parks and bridges in the area?

Have there been any updates on the lad at all recently?

I hope he's located safe very soon. I wonder where and when his phone last shows activity.

‘There’s no evidence of death anywhere. He didn’t take his passport, or his phone charger. We don’t think he’d have killed himself…We’ve asked: “Would he just leave? Did he just want to leave his life and go somewhere else?” We’re pretty sure he wouldn’t have because he was so family-orientated’, his aunt Naureen Mohammed tells Metro from her home in London.

'Ali had been out of work for a year, which had left him feeling anxious, but with plans to set up his own business, the family does not believe he would have harmed himself. ‘We don’t think he just walked out of his life. So could he have come to some harm?’ she asks.'

'Ali’s phone – which remained switched on for three days after he disappeared, has not been found. The family rooted through his computers, checked through his emails and social media, using his Apple ID to log on, but found nothing conclusive to suggest anything was amiss.'
‘This disappearance is completely out of character. We’ve been asking: “Was there a girl? Was there a boy?” But there was nothing like that.

‘We think he’s somewhere. That a crime has been committed, that he’s been hurt. There’s no evidence of death anywhere. The police haven’t found a body, so we think he’s being held,’
Naureen explains.''

''West Midlands Police officers have carried out drone searches, scoured railway tracks, hunted marshes and riverbeds and a ‘digidog’ has been sent into Ali’s bedroom to sniff out any hidden sim cards or hard drives that could provide answers. Nothing was found.''

I wonder what tower it was closest to for those three days.

I really feel for his family.

after telling his mother he was going for his daily walk

If he took a walk every day (not sure how true that is), it does open the possibility he was meeting with someone who was actually a dangerous person.

My sense is that he appears unhappy in some of the photos and for a man who is trying (studying) but unable to find a job for a year, maybe it was a very difficult time lately mentally.

But I am rooting for him/them.

It says here that Ali was out of work. I thought he was a student at university? Have I got this wrong?

Good point, as a graduate maybe he is now a former student, seeking employment for a year without luck , imo.

''The 32-year-old economics graduate shared his family home in Stirchley with parents Mahjabeen and Khadim and younger brother Hammad.''
"He was out of work for a year, he had been feeling anxious, a lot of people these days are, we did not think anything of it.
"Ever since Ali was at university, he has worked. Beyond that we didn't really have concerns."
  • ''February 6 - Ali was seen on CCTV on February 6 buying a coffee from a petrol station in Turves Green, Birmingham wearing a green jacket and blue denim jeans
  • February 6 - CCTV shows him speaking to a woman in Turves Green at a bus stop at 5:25pm.It is believed he then caught a bus towards Northfield and Smethwick but there is no evidence to suggest this is definitely the case
  • February 6 - Ali withdrew £250 in cash from Turves Green
  • Since February 6 there has been no activity on Ali's social media or bank accounts''

The cash withdrawal seems significant if he was supposedly just out for a walk. Also where was his income from bearing in mind he had been out of work for a year. His anxiety could be caused by another matter.
Did he become involved in a nefarious business deal?
IMO

It may have been savings from when he was working. Ali does not strike me as the kind of man to be doing nefarious deals, but you never really know anyone from a newspaper article. From the way the family speak, he seemed a kind person. That's just my own impression though.

I notice one of the articles mentioned that he is/was unmarried, which is very unusual for a man of his age in the Muslim community, and it seems likely that he has never been married since there's no mention of any children missing him. I was wondering therefore whether he is/was gay and struggling with that in a Muslim family and community. That might not necessarily lead him to suicide, but rather to move to a non-Muslim area of the UK.

The other thought that crossed my mind was whether he had decided to leave Islam but felt he could not do that in a Muslim family and community. Apostates from Islam can find themselves in physical danger if those around them adhere to the strict Islamic requirement for apostates to be killed.
