1997 Jason Bennetto rbbm.

'A jewellery dealer murdered in her home by an intruder had complained to police at least twice about a stalker, it was disclosed yesterday.

Carolanne Jackson, 50, who ran an antiques business from her home, was found tied up in the kitchen of her cottage in Wooburn Green, near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, on Sunday morning. She died from asphyxiation and had severe head wounds'.

''Police said the intruder may have waited for Ms Jackson to return from a trip abroad on Friday night and entered her homeas she was unloading her car.

It was disclosed yesterday that Ms Jackson had called the police in February after being followed by a vehicle near her home. She later saw a man standing outside her house. Police searched the area with tracker dogs but could find no sign of the stalker.''

'The assailant tied her hands and feet and took a Rolex watch from her body, with other jewellery.'

''Police are examining possible links with the murder of Janet Brown, 50, a nurse who was found battered to death at her farmhouse in Radnage, Buckinghamshire, two years ago. Supt Partridge said there were certain similarities between the cases but there were no strong links to indicate the killer was the same person.''

''And the sensational report compiled by the medium suggests the 50-year-old antique dealer died at the hands of a woman.

Mrs Jackson, 75, sent Mid Glamorgan-based medium Sally Jane Danter a purse and other items belonging to her daughter, in August last year.
She said: "I got her number from Psychic News. She works with the police on murder cases."

''Mrs Jackson, of Maidenhead, said she is now pinning her hopes on the recovery of a gold 1930s Cartier bracelet which was taken from her daughter's wrist at the time of the killing.
The medium says it was placed in a Barclays Bank safe deposit box and then taken out and put up for sale.''

JMO but I'm not convinced that the Carolanne Jackson and Janet Brown murders are linked.

There are a lot of similarities, but also a lot of differences.

To me, Carolanne's murder seems the far likelier of the two to have been a genuine burglary gone wrong.

"If you have suspicions, it is very easy for our team to trace and request a DNA sample from the person you suspect, or a relative of theirs if they have perhaps passed away or have emigrated."

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting reference 695 (4/8) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.''

Was Carolanne accosted outside her home, or did someone actually break into the property?

To me, that's based on more than just wild speculation. Police have no proof, but it seems to me they wouldn't mention it if there was evidence of other possibilities, such as signs of a break in, glass cut or glass smashed.

It seems likely they also found the victim's luggage as yet unpacked, and it's unlikely there was evidence the victim had been asleep.

The media like to stoke up fears about a serial killer, but from my observation, the news media know diddly-squat about what they're talking about.

Thanks. Based on the official story, it seems like everything that was stolen (cash, watch, bracelet) could just have been taken via mugging outside the house.

Oddly though, the story states LE were unable to get into the safe to determine if it was missing the jewelry she apparently kept there.

Surely, by now, 28 years later, they've been able to sort that out. For eg, whoever handled her estate would have done that.

So I am thinking police haven't updated the media about that?

One of the most basic crimes against the wealthy everywhere is tie up homeowner and demand a code to the safe. Kim Kardashian was fortunate she didn't use a safe in her Paris apartment.

The cause of death is a curious one. According to a local paper:

“She had been beaten about the head with fists and a blunt instrument, and bound by the hands and feet, using items taken from her own home. The official cause of death was asphyxiation.”

Obviously that points to a similarity with JB, who likely would’ve died from having her head taped, but was also beaten with a blunt instrument. But the Independent noted: “There were no strangulation marks on her throat and a murder weapon, such as a pillow, which may have been used to suffocate her, has yet to be identified.”

So I’m wondering a) how they determined the cause of death and b) what exactly caused it.

Also, whereas JB’s attacker apparently brought with him the items he used to kill her, in this case items from the victim’s home were used against her.

Does anyone believe that Carolanne's safe remains in police storage, unopenable, with the contents still a mystery?

I’d like to think they either kept it if they felt it’d be forensically useful one day, or found a way to get in to verify what - if anything - was inside, even if brute force was required?

I still think a fair bit about the cause of death here, it seems a strange one - why beat her about the head with fists and a blunt instrument, only to then asphyxiate her? And with what? Did the killer enjoy beating women as a form of abuse and torture, but had a specific desire when it came to killing them to asphyxiate them?

That said I still feel like this is more of a ‘robbery gone wrong’ type of case compared to Janet Brown’s killing, but there definitely are some appalling similarities.

I think Carolanne's next of kin would have wanted the contents of the safe. In other cases the police have recruited security experts (usually former safe crackers) to access safes.

Carolanne's mum doesn't seem to have been wealthy. Carolanne clearly had some money, but she didn't own the house and was renting. I'm not sure if she owned other properties or how she funded her business.
