'Police have said they are investigating a "racially aggravated" rape in the West Midlands.
Officers were called just before 8.30am on Tuesday after a Sikh woman in her 20s reported being attacked by two white men in the area around Tame Road in Oldbury.'

'The Sikh Federation (UK) said the perpetrators allegedly told the woman during the attack: "You don't belong in this country, get out."

"More than 48 hours later we await the public condemnation by politicians on all sides of this brutal racist and sexual attack where a young Sikh woman has been viciously beaten and raped."

''Police investigating the alleged rape of a Sikh woman in the West Midlands say they are treating it as a hate crime.
Detectives are hunting for two white male suspects alleged to have racially abused the woman during the assault in broad daylight. Police say they believe one suspect had a shaved head and wore gloves.
West Midlands police launched a major investigation and manhunt after the incident in Oldbury was reported on Tuesday morning.
The woman who was attacked is in her 20s. Police and Sikh community groups said they were supporting her and her family.
There has been a rise in racial tension across the UK and heated debate over immigration and asylum.''

'The victim, a British-born Sikh in her 20s, told officers a racist remark was made during the assault.'

'The Sikh Federation (UK) said the perpetrators allegedly told the woman during the attack, which they said happened between 8am and 8.30am: “You don’t belong in this country, get out.”

'The force said officers want to speak to anyone who may have seen two white men in the area.
The first is described as having a shaved head and a heavy build, and he was wearing a dark sweatshirt with gloves on.
The second man was reportedly wearing a grey top with a silver zip.''

This makes me so angry, I can only think recent events will increase hate crimes even further. Two men raping a woman in public is rare, these two are brazen and very dangerous individuals. Hope they are caught quickly. There must be footage of them somewhere? Moo

'A Sikh woman who was raped in a "racially aggravated attack" in the West Midlands says she "would never wish this on anyone".

''Thanking everyone for their support, she said: "We are going through a lot, but the strength and kindness shown by the right people in the community has been incredible and I can't thank them enough for being my voice.

"I would never wish this on anyone. All I was doing was going about my day on my way to work, and what has happened has deeply affected us."

Calling her family her "rock," she went on: "The police are doing their best to find those responsible, and I truly hope they are caught so that this doesn't happen to anyone else."

'Officers said CCTV, forensic and other enquiries are well underway, but have appealed for anyone in the area who may have seen the men, or have any further information, to contact the force.'

Trying to imagine the logistics of the crime. Were the men on foot and encountered the victim randomly and decided to attack?

The sheer brazenness of the attack makes me wonder if this woman wasn't their first victim. Either way, I hope she's their last

This is a sad story. The Guardian calls it an alleged rape. The other news sources don't mention the word alleged. Is anyone clear on whether a healthcare provider confirmed there was a rape?

I think the guardian are just being careful calling it "alleged" since nobody's been convicted yet

Glad to read of an arrest, and of the strong community support for the victim. Revolting crime.

"Through it all, my family has been my rock and my community has stood strong beside me."

The demonstration, held to show solidarity with the victim, began in Smethwick before heading to the scene of the attack.

At the demonstration, Kuldeep Singh Deol, former president of Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick, said: "This attack on our sister is shameful. Our daughters, sisters, and mothers deserve to be safe, regardless of colour or which faith they belong to.

"Girls and women, especially, should feel safe in our society. Our politicians are failing us - creating divides instead of building bridges and solutions.''

"Sikhs have stood for this nation - from Saragarhi to the world wars - earning Victoria Crosses for bravery.
"We are proud citizens, contributing through the NHS, in business, and across British society.''
