Hasn’t been positively identified via DNA yet but sounds like authorities are basically 100% confident it’s him despite that just based on other clues such as location/clothing, etc. I wonder how long he has been dead for. Just crazy he was that close to the crime scene and wasn’t found earlier despite months of searching.

Either way, thank god that that nightmare is over for the families

Even after years following many such cases of wilderness searches, I do still always find it a little wild how remains can go undetected even when being searched grid by grid, by tons of volunteers, with a fine tooth comb. I suspect this is the simple answer in so many baffling ongoing mysteries.

This news doesn't surprise me a bit. Even though he's stayed off the grid for a few months per MSM we've discussed, it was just getting harder and harder to believe he was out there, dodging LE for this long IMO.

What I wonder is how did he die? A bullet to the head? Was he found hanging and they walked right by him, like Tyler Goodrich, because they didn't look up? I also wonder if he left a note for either the mother of his 3 sweet children, or for LE, explaining things?

And I KNOW his ex is resting a little easier now, knowing she doesn't have to fear that every bump in the night is TD coming to get her. That has to be a HUGE relief. Hopefully with this news she can start the healing process and find ways to enjoy life again.

The area where Travis was found had not been searched previously.

Interview with Sheriff Mike Morrison tonight. According to the Sheriff, his remains were found about 0.74 miles away from the initial crime scene, right around elevation above 4000ft. So just outside of the initial three search areas that they conducted earlier throughout the summer.
Usually that means the river or creek is at the bottom of a valley or canyon and the walls of the canyon and any bottom land where the water drains into the creek are all "in the drainage" of the creek. In this case it is just a generic term for the Icicle Creek Valley and does not really specify anything other than it was not over one of the other sides of the mountain spines that the creek runs between.
So he was found right outside of the search area, just as we guessed. Am I correct in thinking that he did end up in the river like we also suspected initially (as linked below)?

avis had one of the better sites right on the river. The river flow can still be quite loud in May
is it possible TD went into the river?
I think Decker will eventually be recovered from the nearby Icicle Creek/ River.

I also wonder about the possible role of a firearm in his probable suicide. In that case, we would at least get a cause of death for sure...

What I wonder is how did he die? A bullet to the head?
What is very interesting about this DailyMail article is the photo of the bullet casing found. I haven't heard anything about this from the Chelan Co Sheriff.

Thanks for the correction! :)

Well that's sure odd that they didn't search 1 mile away with all the searching they did. As you can see I assumed they had searched there. I wonder why they hadn't done that in the beginning?

The discovery will be followed up with DNA analysis, deputies said.

Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison told KIRO 7 that the remains were located on Grindstone Mountain, off Icicle Road, just a few miles away from where his three daughters were found dead.

Morrison said clothing found near the remains was similar to what Decker was wearing when he went on the run, adding that crews also discovered unspecified personal items.

Drones and cadaver dogs helped locate the remains, the outlet noted.

I assume we'll learn those details once the autopsy is finished. I think whether the COD can be determined might depend on what it was - like, if it was a gunshot wound, that should be pretty obvious. If he killed himself the same way he killed the girls, whatever he used to do it might well have been on or near the body. An accident or death from exposure might be more difficult, but I'm not a doctor or pathologist so this is all just speculation

I don't think accidental considering they had found his bloody hand prints on the truck and the girls were murdered by suffocation. I just wonder how far from the girls bodies did they find his remains?

I hope this tragedy serves as a wake-up call to provide better and more timely mental health services to veterans in our country. A tormented soul took the lives of three precious and innocent children, and now he is gone as well and his wife is left to mourn the loss of her entire immediate family.

May they all rest in peace, with deepest sympathy to the wife and father and brother of TD.

Crazy how a spot less than a mile away is considered "out of the search area"

Sheriff also stated they are asking if they can get DNA results back by the end of tomorrow (Friday, Sept, 19th)

In this news video, the sheriff says that the remains were found 7.4 miles from the crime scene. The remains are severely decomposed and have been scattered by animals.

I think this is the same video as was earlier posted with the info 0.74 miles, at an elevation of about 4,000 feet. I listened again, and it does sound like the sheriff says "point seven four."

So that is less than one mile - but if that's as the crow flies, and in such rugged terrain, it's not surprising to me that the remains were not inside the earlier search areas. The sheriff also says that the remains were found as part of a fourth, extended search.

Hoping it's confirmed to be TD.
