Paul VanDuyne, a mechanical engineer, and his girlfriend Andrea Whitaker, a (former, I hope!) pharmacy student, have been arrested for looking up women he'd dated in the past, and she is believed to have at least attempted to poison them. One woman is currently recovering from thallium poisoning, and others have found cyanide in water bottles they left in their cars, that kind of thing.

One of those women said she'd dated VanDuyne twice and didn't want to see him again because she wasn't further interested in him! She had totally forgotten about him until the arrest, although she'd had strange things happen in recent weeks.

This is just totally bizarre, and as a retired pharmacist, I can't imagine throwing away one's future in this manner.

ETA: They were arrested on the 16th, not the 18th.

Here's his Facebook page, which is very minimal. She also goes by "Ani", which indicates to me that it's his.

Seems like a toxic relationship between 2 not-good people spiraled into some folie-a-deux as well.

  • #8
The woman was reportedly in a similar situation a few weeks later and called 911 when her water smelled weird, Brown said. The water bottle had cyanide inside, authorities determined, per the District Attorney’s statement WMTV 15 cited.

In nearby Rock County, another woman suffered on three occasions what authorities have determined to be alleged poisonings, per WKOW.

In April, her gym water bottle was allegedly contaminated with cyanide and thallium after her car was broken into, prosecutors said, according to WKOW.
Man, Girlfriend Allegedly Tried to Poison His Exes with Cyanide: Police

Prosecutors said that soon thereafter, VanDuyne and Whitaker, a pharmacology student, launched a plan to poison the women’s personal belongings — including their vehicles and water bottles — with a variety of toxic substances.

It appears Whitaker was allegedly jealous of the women.
[snip]
Upon searching VanDuyne’s minivan, detectives found multiple glass vials as well as rosary peas and a seed grinder in his home, court documents say.

VanDuyne remains behind bars on $10 million bail; Whitaker is currently being held on $4 million bail.Princeton grad, gal pal allegedly use rat poison, rosary-pea toxin on women he met on dating apps

court dates: Whitaker is due in court July 2nd while VanDuyne will appear on August 4th.

They seem a match made in hell.

Cyanide, thallium, AND rosary peas? Did they just google a list of awful poisons and fill their shopping cart with a whole selection from the dark web?

Poisoners. I hate them.

I decided to do two different notes for Van Duyne on each county that he was charged in.

Tuesday, July 15th:
*Initial Appearance Hearing (@ 3pm ET) – WI - *2 Women (in Rock County) attempted poisoning by cyanine & thallium. *Paul Dustin VanDuyne, Jr. (43) arrested (6/16/25) & charged (6/19/25) with 2 counts attempt 1st degree intentional homicide, 5 counts with use of a dangerous weapon, Aggravated battery-intend great bodily harm, 1st degree recklessly endangering safety & stalking-result in bodily harm. #37.5M bond. Rock County
Case info: Paul Van Duyne Jr, 43. & Andrea Whitaker, 41 are under arrest in Wisconsin. They are accused of trying to poison at least two women who dated Van Duyne, one of them three times. Both women said they drank water that tasted weird after their respective cars had been broken into, per authorities. Dane County authorities allege that Van Duyne & Whitaker hatched the plot to kill the women soon after the couple began dating. One of the alleged victims claimed that about a month ago, she was told by witnesses outside a Costco that her car had been broken into, Dane County Deputy District Attorney William Brown said. She also took a sip of water which was inside her car & it tasted strange, prompting her to spit it out, citing Brown & a criminal complaint. The woman was reportedly in a similar situation a few weeks later & called 911 when her water smelled weird, Brown said. The water bottle had cyanide inside, authorities determined, per the DA’s statement. In nearby Rock County, another woman suffered on three occasions what authorities have determined to be alleged poisonings. They have been charged with three counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, aggravated battery, first-degree recklessly endangering safety & stalking resulting in bodily harm.
