None of this stuff about depression, relationship problems, whatever helps to explain why he chose to kill the 149 people on board. It could be something like notoriety, but there has to be some other reason he chose this method to go out by. These other problems might be triggers, but triggered what, is the question for me.

A stupid question: they say he put the plane in to descent mode but how do they know this without the other black box? And how is it done anyway? Sorry if it's been explained before, hard to keep up.

Air Traffic Control would have them on their radar.

What they need is armed guards on each flight, in the cockpit, such as the Swiss Guards in the Vatican, and the Marines aboard Navy ships.

I think I'd rather the risks of a terrorist or a loco pilot than bringing guns onto commercial aircraft. A stray bullet would not be good. Plus what if the armed guard has a mental problem....

From gregjrichard's link upthread, maybe co-pilot led a double life?
rbbm.

"Professor Robert Bor, a specialist aviation psychologist in London, said: ‘Taking an aircraft full of passengers with you and flying in to a mountain suggests you are trying to destroy all the evidence of your suicide attempt.

‘But as we have the black box and the recording, he was not very successful in hiding it - if indeed that is what has happened. We need to look in to the mind of the person. Unfortunately he is no longer alive but we do leave so-called psychological footprints before we act in this kind of way.’

Dr Bor said it was also possible it was ‘an impulsive act at the time’ but said it was much more likely to be an issue with the personal life of the pilot.

Investigators are now delving in to every aspect of the personal life of Andreas Lubitz to uncover any clues about his mental state. This will include looking in detail at his personal relationships.

Lubitz travelled to the Las Marenas Resort in Miami with a male friend in November 2011. A Facebook post from the time stated that he and his friend were enjoying sunbathing and swimming

But there's better ways of staging a suicide to look like an accident, also without killing 149 other people. He could have gone up on a solo flight in a small aircraft. Surely he knew the extent of investigation into such a crash and how hard it would be to cover up.

As sad and as unbelievably tragic and hard to be forgiven I seek relief in the fact that at least he didn't bring it down over a town or where more people would have gotten hurt.....

Praying for the families, friends and everyone connected....

I agree, but still can't reconcile in my head why he didn't just take a solo flight in a small plane and crash it into a bare mountain if he was depressed and had recently suffered a break-up and wanted to end his life.

Change of subject...I keep looking at the pics of the recovery workers sifting through the wreckage searching for body parts and personal belongings. How horrible that must be for them. The impact of this tragedy will how lifelong effects on so many. It just makes me so angry at this senseless act!

I agree I suffer from severe depression due to my own personal tragedy and when I have felt suicidal I would never have harmed another sole but myself. I'm struggling to get my head around murdering 149 people even if he was severely depressed. I guess he may have wanted to die flying the plane he is supposed to have loved flying.

That red thing (robe/blanket/rug) showing in the evidence box is curious. jmo Why did they have to show that red thing? gah...probably nothing. Can't wait for the evidence.

Just heard (radio) police were seen carrying a laptop out of the home.

I am a very experienced flyer. My father worked for an airline for 35 plus years.
When boarding the pilots either greet you or have their cabin door and watch and smile at the passengers, sometimes before take off they bring in children to look at the cockpit, the little ones always get such a thrill from that. They leave beaming ear to ear.

I cannot phatom how this monster watched his passengers board, especially the younger ones...who idolize these men in the cockpit...and still did this absolutely hideous selfish disgusting beyond words act.

There are no words for this.

I saw photos of them carrying a computer tower out of his home but never saw any photos of the laptop. Perhaps they took both.

The co-pilot could be heard breathing, the experts concluded that he was awake and did not suffer from a heart attack, etc

IMO this had to be planned. The Co-Pilot had no way of ensuring the Pilot would exit on such a short flight.
ETA-meaning he waited for the first opportunity. I cant see a Co-Pilot asking hey go grab me a coffee

My thoughts exactly Bravo…too many things had to be lined up.

Tower was from his parents' home. I think search of his apartment was later, laptop probably came from apt.

If Lubitz did plan this, I've been thinking that must have included a plan to disable the pilot? Because he couldn't count on him going to the toilet.

If he was as much of an aviation fanatic as people who know him report, I'd think he might have been posting on an aviation forum somewhere. That could shed light on how he felt, maybe? Not under his own name, obviously. I'm sure police will discover that, if he was.

The co-pilot of the Germanwings Airbus was a convert to Islam

All evidence indicates that the copilot of Airbus machine in his six-months break during his training as a pilot in Germanwings, converted to Islam and subsequently either by the order of "radical", ie. devout Muslims , or received the order from the book of terror, the Quran, on his own accord decided to carry out this mass murder.

Police investigating the Germanwings crash said tonight they had made a 'significant discovery' at the home of pilot Andreas Lubitz, who deliberately ploughed the Airbus A320 into the French Alps.

Officers refused to reveal details of the potential breakthrough but said it was not a suicide note.

I read things like that earlier in the day, and that his girlfriend (or ex) was Muslim, but no MSN has reported it. I'll wait.
