Deceased/Not Found Australia - Cheryl Grimmer, 3, Fairy Meadow Beach, NSW, 12 Jan 1970

If it's Jessop, he's acquired quite a lot of hair in recent years, not to mention the weight.

Yes, got a toupe (no grey in that, that I can see through the blur! Though there is grey at the sides.) and perhaps contact lenses, too. lol
But the slopey shoulders look just the same. haha

Unnamed man arrested for Cheryl's murder:

The unnamed man is definitely wearing glasses.

Just a thought ... this man ^^^^, Alfred Jessop, was sentenced in 1978 and freed in 2003. He would be about/exactly 63 years old now (he was 55 at the time of the below article from 2009).

There was a great hue and cry when he was released, as he was considered to be a time bomb. Did he change his name upon release, or while he was in jail?

Was he sent to Mt Penang as a troubled boy? Then later arrested for Vicki Barton's murder? I guess I don't know enough about Vicki Barton's murder, other than Vicki's and Cheryl's murders both happened in NSW not so very far away from each other ...

(Sorry symbah ... I deleted and added to my post, so your response now falls before my post ... oops! )

BBM ... No worries SA :)

Just thinking that maybe it is a possibility that Jessop did spend some time in Mt Penang as a juvenile.

Although Jessop wasn't arrested for Vicki's murder till, from memory, he was 24yrs old (whilst in jail), he did go onto committing crimes against women after vicki's murder and did eventually end up in prison for these crimes.

Maybe when Jessop first started committing these crimes against women he was a juvenile and perhaps sent to Mt Penang. There he may of met the now accused (they are the same age). The now accused may of told Jessop what he'd done to little Cheryl or/and Jessop told the now accused about Vicki Barton. Just trying to figure out the phone calls to Cheryl's parents with the knowledge of strangulation.

Hope this makes sense!

I suspect there could be other crimes against children, due to his name change. And due to the 'quite horrific' still unknown details about this case. And due to his crime against Cheryl as a tiny, 3 year old. He may have learned how to become more cunning over time, and not had the knee jerk reaction of killing his victim - and disposing of her so that she was never found - to try to hide his crime.

Yet he seems to have passed muster to have been employed as a security guard.

Is it known whether Jessop ever had a partner and children?

I'm not good with faces but I do think there's a fair similarity allowing for the hair and weight, especially the expression. What do others think? Am I just imagining into the blur?

Yes, but I don't think he's had his own children.

I think there is a resemblance, too. The shoulders, the nose, the shape of his neck (under the increased weight), both have small mouths. I'd like to see his ears more clearly. They don't put on weight.

"One neighbour said she was shocked when she received the flyer and said she saw Jessop and his partner, believed to be his wife, often walking to the shops holding hands."

In 2010 Jessop is stated as living in Liverpool, Sydney. Personally, I think he's too thin to be the accused. I may be wrong though.

Alfred Jessop, who also goes by the name of David Wilkes, was sentenced to life in jail for the murder of eight-year-old Vicki Barton in the Blue Mountains in 1969.
Jessop carried Vicki’s body on a bicycle trailer to bushland and buried her. Police did not arrest him until years later, eventually convicting him in 1978.
His life sentenced was reduced on appeal and he was released in 2003.
Described as a sexual psychopath, Jessop was found living with children when he was convicted of assaulting a woman in 2006, and given a good behaviour bond.
Neighbours living in Liverpool in southwestern Sydney in 2010 were alarmed to discover the old man living in their street who would shine a torch on them as they drove past was Jessop.
He is not under any supervision by authorities.

Yes, thank you. From your link:

She claimed Jessop had a son and he would later leave him in his pram at the train station while he followed girls and harassed them.
. . .
Ms . . . said her cousin eventually left Jessop with their son, who she said "shared none" of his father's genes and was a lovely young man when she saw him last.

(Attributed to The Daily Telegraph 13-6-2009)

That last is ambiguous but I think it means there was no resemblance between father and son not that they weren't biologically related. And I take "left Jessop with her son" to mean the woman took her son away from Jessop, although it could mean the son remained behind.

Thanks JLZ, I agree. I think it means the the woman took her son away from Jessop.

She first became suspicious when, she said, he would shine a torch in her eyes when she drove past his house. "I thought he was just an old bloke going a bit senile ..... "

I wonder if he is an 'old bloke' who has some mental issues that need psychiatric help. Ones that may have prevented him from making a court appearance.

If it is him, he has moved from the Liverpool NSW area to Melbourne sometime in the last seven years. Not unheard of, as people like this need to stay under the radar - and MAKO had outed him in NSW.

But, as you say, there could possibly be some other connection (or not) via the boys home.

His shoulders just get to me. They look exactly the same. The way he holds them.

I was thinking about his employment too, but maybe he's just never been caught.
I wonder if teenagers who harm/murder children later go on to committing crimes also against adults?

I would think that would be a fairly easy transition. It is known that children who hurt animals often go on to hurt people. So I imagine harming a younger child when a child could easily lead on to hurting less physically strong or vulnerable adults when an adult.

Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals don’t stop there—many of them move on to their fellow humans. “Murderers … very often start out by killing and torturing animals as kids,” says Robert K. Ressler, who developed profiles of serial killers for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

My family lived next door to Alfred Jessop at Lawson when he murdered little Vicki Barton.
He used to write some very strange letters to my sisters that were only young girls at the time. Absolutely nothing would surprise me with this creep, he rides around with a flipping cart on his bike just like he used to carry Vicki's body in.
Our family and other locals have always said we will read about him again one day, he's a ticking time bomb.....
RIP little Cheryl x

Did you ever see his handwriting and if so how did it compare to the anonymous letter about Cheryl? Copy pictured here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-Father-accused-murdering-Cheryl-Grimmer.html
