What if there was no ransom letter?

SuperDave, since the police could not compel them to come into the station and talk the day JonBenet's body was found, what is your view on what could have been done to get a statement sometime before the Ramseys went on television a week after JonBenet's death? In my mind, the Ramseys failure to cooperate for four months suggests they were somehow involved and needed that time to form a plan.

I understand the Ramseys say they were taking their counsel's advice to remain quiet. I think that's a ruse but then I haven't seen actual evidence or case papers so my opinion isn't worth much. :twocents:

Lou Smits was quoted in an article written after Patsy died, where he said John and Patsy should have been taken straight to the police station. If they refused to go, they should have been arrested.

I remember at the time being completely baffled by what the Boulder police was doing. Parents dump the body of their child at the feet of the police and the police aren't able to talk to them. I was wondering what country I was living in.

I can't figure out WHY they would go on national tv, but refused to speak to police....if their counsel had advised them to remain quiet. I would think that remain quiet...would also mean....don't talk to the media. Of course, they do what they want to do....notice how they didn't follow the advice of the RN either. Kinda ironic how they ignore the RN when it comes to the life of their daughter (by calling over their friends, when warned not to talk to so much as a dog)....but, when ask to give a statment to police, they are advised by their counsel, not to speak...and they actually follow directions that time. Except....of course, when they went on National TV and spoke, right after JB's death. They seem to remain quiet only when the outcome could affect THEM.

Arresting them; that's about it. Legally, you have no obligation to talk to the police. But I agree with Lou on that one. To my knowledge, he has never defended their decision not to do so. That's one for him.

Okay, thanks. I wasn't sure what Colorado Code/Law allowed. I made a comment on another board about compelling them to come in under warrant and I received the wrath of God on my head about how that wasn't allowed. I thought maybe Colorado was different than states I'm familiar with.

I'd give a dollar to know what Smit really thinks.

We all know they didn't have to follow the RN- they wrote it! There wasn't one single action they took that day that would indicate that the Rs were at all worried that kidnappers would kill their daughter. After that 911 call, the RN wasn't given a single thought. Their lawyers didn't want them talking to LE. I think their lawyers were OK with the spin show they put on when they went on CNN.

you're not the only one !
I can't beleive he still thinks they're innocent;I really don't think he does.

yes,and they only talk when they have to,which is why I think it's important to look at every little thing they say, esp. in DOI and the interviews. They don't appear to bother to point out anything unless it's in self defense.

You know, one of the things that I am so curious about is what caused LA to do a complete turn-around in her belief that JR killed his daughter. I know she resented being portrayed as the one who botched the case. (though she had plenty of help in botching the case, it was she who failed to contain the crime scene) and she touched/moved the body herself. She violated nearly every known procedure that came into play that day.
While I totally sympathize with the fact that her superiors left her without back-up, but let's face it- she was the one with a gun. She could have ordered them all out and kept the Rs in her sight.

I know she is writing a book- and I know she isn't going be portray HERSELF as being responsible for botching the case. So I wonder whether she'll use this as payback to her then-superiors.
As a rape victim specialist, she was trained to view the woman as a victim, so I can almost understand why she might see PR as innocent, but in her own words she accused JR. I hope her book will offer some explanation for her reversal.

If I recall correctly,I think her book implied that JR could have done it,but without Patsy's knowledge.
So I have to wonder,if JR didn't do it..(I don't rule him out,and if he did,I think she knew it)...then it appears she feared JR might throw her under the bus someday after she died, just to clear his own name??This seems to be a way for her to insure he doesn't.It seems Patsy may have put a twist into LA's mind?

Has LA's book come out yet? I sure want to read that! I didn't think she had it out at this point.

No,I don't think it's out yet.I just read a preview of it.It's probably still on the net somewhere.

Maybe at this point to save face for the way he likely earned a great deal of money regarding this case.

good thought.or to save face period, since he was so adamant there was an intruder...I have a feeling he has his doubts now,but won't admit it.
I think he was hired to find a way to make an IDI scenerio fit. He's not going to go back on that now,no matter what he may secretly think.
Or could he be afraid of being sued by JR?
I think he felt sorry for Patsy for her bout w. cancer.
