'What the hell is going on in Ballarat?'

Many versions of this question, with varying levels of expletives, have echoed across Victoria and Australia in the past day or two.

It is a fair question — the regional Victorian city has been hit by more tragedy and trauma in the past two months than you would expect in a place with a population of around 110,000 people.
.....

Not just a Ballarat problem

Of the 18 Australian women allegedly killed by men this year, three have died in the Ballarat region.

To put that another way, the lives of 16 per cent of all women allegedly killed by men in Australia this year are believed to have ended in the Ballarat region.

It may sound like an unlikely figure, but the reality is that data shows the rate of family violence in the Victorian town is higher than state and national averages.

In 2021, the rate of family violence common assault in Ballarat was approximately 12 per cent higher than across the state, according to crime statistics.

But these latest events are something new and even more frightening."

" 'Don’t feel safe’:

Outrage grows at deaths of Ballarat women.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend a snap rally in the Victorian city of Ballarat,
as outrage grows about the alleged killings of three local women.

Friday’s

'Enough is Enough' march

has been organised by Sissy Austin."

For quite some time I’ve been annoying people with my thoughts about the ‘decline’ in the values of our society, and the scarily slippery slope we’re on - which IMO transfers into respect / disrespect for human life, be it one’s own or that of another.

To cut to the relevant, these days, ‘murdering’ someone has become like throwing out the rubbish !
Governments / legislative bodies need to get very real, very quickly, in how to tackle this problem, and how to restore a genuinely functioning society .

Just my personal opinion.

Officers will enter the Enfield State Park area, with Victoria Police saying the search will focus on an area “highlighted by intelligence derived from a number of sources”.

Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Hatt said Thursday’s search would involve “a significant number of detectives from the Missing Persons Squad and police from a number of specialist areas”.

“Since Samantha’s disappearance over two months ago, a range of searches and other enquiries have been undertaken in the Ballarat area as part of this investigation. This includes extensive large scale searches such as we have planned this week, but also smaller targeted searches focused in very specific areas.

“The Murphy family has also been informed of this week’s search and police continue to liaise closely with them during the course of this investigation.”

God, I hope this is finally it for the Murphy's and they can lay Samantha to rest and have just a tiny bit of closure on that front. Hopefully if they are able to find her, that her body gives some clues that will prove beneficial in a trial.
