De Telegraaf said the 22-year-old Dutchman claims he only signed papers admitting killing Stephany Flores because he was intimidated by police and had been promised he would be transferred to the Netherlands if he confessed.

"I was very scared and confused during the interrogations and wanted to get away," the paper quoted him as saying. "In my blind panic, I signed everything, but didn't even know what it said."

"I was tricked," the paper quoted Van der Sloot as saying of Flores' killing. "I'll explain later how it all happened."

A self-avowed compulsive liar, Van der Sloot has several times given and retracted admissions of involvement in Holloway's disappearance.

I am sick to death of his drama. Hundreds of missing and endangered kids/adults are out there and need the coverage this man is usurping for his own pleasure and disgusting ego. I feel so deeply for the victims families of this man. I just think that he is rubbing salt in the wound and using the press to do it.

Should I be given a choice as to which stories the major media outlets would follow, I would certainly limit the time spent on him. I think it does the families a disservice to report his forever changing stories. I just can't wait til he is locked away and becomes a OJ Simpson and nobody cares to check on him anymore.

Tricked into signing? Not understanding what was on the paper?? Well when I saw the video of the official talking to him just prior to him signing, VDS replied to him in Spanish, and then he read the papers carefully, very carefully and then he signed his John Hancock.
Today he faces the Judge..hoping this will be thrown out because he now how his lawyer with him. I'm sure the Judge is NO JERK and won't let this get away with his antics.

He'll only get back to Aruba.........
Once he serves his time in Peru
then heads to the USA for his extortion trial
then he's off to Aruba for the Holloway case

By that time he'll be an old old man.
Only if he survives Peruvian Justice.

and poker, and then murder, and then escaping the police, and now escaping prison !

Prior to everything in Peru, Joran's supporters have publically maintained
his sanity. Now that an actual defense is required they move to ... he's
always been mentally ill, except nobody who could did anything about it. How does parents giving a 15th year mentally disturbed person his own apartment and funds to gamble (and who knows what else) qualify as being concerned about his emotional stability?

Perhaps the newspaper didn't publish AVS's thoughts about the extortion or perhaps no one asked her the question regarding the extortion.

When a child becomes an adult, it is difficult to try and get them into a mental facility to get help. Parents hands become tied once a child becomes of age. Although there are ways to try and get an adult child into a facilty, and it may take going through the court system to try and get the adult child committed. I am not familiar with the Arubian law for committing someone, however here in Florida we have the Baker Act. Although in my home state of New Jersey, you have to go through the court system, well at least 40 years ago we had to go through the court system.

I agree with you and ABSOLUTELY think that his planned trip to a mental institution, and actual trip to Peru were to avoid the trouble coming his way for the extortion attempt, and also believe he was tipped off. He also had $25k burning a hole in his pocket so away he went. He is going down in the biggest way and if he decides to accellerate the downhill trajectory by spinning this 'poor me, I'm mental' BS then so be it.

We all saw the '1 boy 2 cups' vid Joran, is the most damning video of a perp I have ever seen, and you my friend are 'for it'!

I imagined that he had spent that money in the casino and needed more. I dont think he had any more money then what he stole from Stephanie.

As a mother...It breaks my heart. I can't even imagine EVER getting to the point where I felt I couldn't embrace my son or visit him. EVEN under Joran's circumstances. It's inconceivable to me. BUT I only have one son, his mother has other children she needs to worry about.

I feel exactly as you on this one. But, like you, I only have one child (a son). I'm sure it would have to be different if I had more children. Not that I would love my son any less, but that I would also have to consider how my actions would affect my other children. --- I thank the Lord that I don't have to know how that feels.

IMO, it is the press "pumping up their egos" and as long as we watch and eagerly wait for the next report from InSessions, HLN, Nancy, Issues, repeated stories on Natalie, or clicking on websites to get info, the media will continue to cover the story until things settle down.

The more everyone chats about Joran across the Internet, keeps the story alive and running.

If Joran wasn't connected to Natalie five years ago, we wouldn't even hear about this story. Now if the media would seperate the two and only concentrate on the fact that Joran killed Stephany, this story would go out of the American news coverage. JMO

This sudden late night conversion about Joran's mental health won't mean anything in Peru or
in the USA either, because, Joran has demonstrated he has the capacity to make rational
decisions and knows right from wrong - he just choses to do wrong thinking he can beat
all other players in the game of right vrs wrong. They are grasping at straws. Joran is going to stay in prisons for a long time to come no matter what defense is given and whether sane or insane or anything else. Thus goeth her "sporter" who she said was sane and only a "sporter".

Why would AVS call authorities when she found the note from her son indicating he wasn't going to a mental facility? I didn't read that Joran was court ordered to go to the mental facilty.

Did Joran tell his mother where he was when they spoke on the phone after the AVS stated that it was on the news that they are looking for him?

Peru is SO WISE to his creep and Joran thinks he can lie his way out of this 'hell on earth' with no one coming to his aid.

I was feeling sorry for Joran's mom, but not any more. Why is it that these parents go into denial and try to protect their child at any cost, when the evidence is clearly there. She is still in denial about what happened to Natalee. If she knew he needed to be in a mental facility, why didn't she issue an alert saying that instead of saying after he has killed again. We have seen this type of behaviour in a parent over and over, which leads me to believe that this making excuses for and denying what they have done is part of the problem. It makes them think they can do anything and the parents will be there to take up for them. How refreshing it would be to see a parent of one who has murdered or committed any other serious crime to stand up and say, " This is my child and I love him/her, but I am so sorry for what they have done and know they must pay the penalty".

I don't think he was scheduled..It sounds like it was more of a 'family decision' that he should go to the Netherlands for treatment, based on his behaviour over the last few months.

It's possible that the family found out about the extortion of natalee's family (and that it was a 'sting') but that is pure speculation.

Does anyone believe that this recanting by JVS puts him in more immediate danger while he is waiting for adjudication? I wonder if the Flores family/Peruvian interests are attempting to let justice take its course, but if it looks like JVS will try to work the system in his favor, will there be some sort of "instant" justice sent his way?

I think he is playing with grownups using a little boy's game skills.

His Peruvian attorney Maximo Altez told local media that van der Sloot planned to avoid responding to the judges questions in a bid to invalidate the police investigation.


Van der Sloot says he won't speak to authorities until the court accepts a writ of habeas corpus for him to challenge his detention. The document was filed a week ago and requested a new police interrogation in the presence of Altez, a prosecutor and translator.
