Without these two guys - wow, would the early '70s have been boring for me in Kansas:

I was SO into Bowie in junior/senior high. Just call me Ms. Stardust. :)

"Changes" is still one of my favorite songs, but with Bowie it's so hard to pick a favorite song. I heard "Pressure" last night in the car and am continually amazed at the beauty of classic rock music. Love you David Bowie!

He even looks cool in a mugshot

His birthday's past but his influence lives on. An example from twenty years ago:

With great respect, may I submit this one for consideration of another breathtaking cover :blushing:

EDIT: And as to those influenced, here's a little Hedwig and Angry Inch, "The Origin Of Love":

I guess David was even involved in producing one of the productions of the stage version.

EDIT: This thread has been an extraordinary tribute, many thanks to all who posted. David Bowie is such an incredible artist! I'm always so envious of you British, and props to wfgodot for bringing our stars Iggy and Lou into the mix.

Thanks daisy.faithfull, I started the thread as a tribute to the taste of the wondrous badhorsie, and people seemed to find and like it. Re: the Mott v. Nirvana covers, I'll give it to Ian Hunter's boys on the "It saved their careers and Bowie did write it for them in the first place" tie-breaker, while allowing that Kurt & Co.'s sterling, stirring effort also occupies great pride of place in my record collection.

Sending this one out to all Bolan / T. Rex fanatics as Marc B. would have turned 65 this 30 September - born in the same year as Bowie, then. Am attempting to turn thread into glam rock appreciation society.
