He sure did. Everything he did prior to the killing negates an Insanity Defense alone. Do you think we will still see his Lawyer spin it this way. I do. Really what else has his Lawyer got. Off to vaccum my keyboard. Now my question mark key is not working :banghead:

He'll use the SSRI "documented violent side-effect" defense--the Harris/Klebold "columbine SSRI-killer" defense.

I just don't see the need for the average citizen to own an assault weapon. It`s not hunting and it`s not protection. It`s for mass killing. That`s all i will say on the matter.

The link wouldn't open for me but I will take your word for it.
That being said do you really think an armed patron in that dark theater could have saved the day? Taken out the perp without harming another individual?

Sure, there might have been unfortunate collateral damage--

I am wondering who funded his purchase of the guns and ammo. It cost thousands of dollars for sure. His parents maybe? Also, his age and personality profile, as reported so far, seems to indicate he could have paranoid schizophrenia. He has a mental problem no doubt.

They are for hunting thugs that want to kill you

Well it certainly appears he was a busy bee and planned it all well in advance.

"And sources say over the past several months, Holmes spent about $15,000 as he was putting together his deadly arsenal -- guns, chemicals, explosives, and ammunition."

Credit cards he had no intention of paying for.

Also did he think perhaps someone in his apartment building would have set it off due to that music? That one chick said she went up to complain and the door appeared opened. She was a doorknob away from getting blown up.

He was very organized. I'm thinking the music was symbolic in some way for him. And I’m wondering whether he planned to tell the cops all along about the booby-trapped apartment? The fact that his apartment is booby-trapped tells me he is playing a game with the police. IMO, once LE found out who he was, he knew they would be going straight to his residence. Sick.

Could he have scared his face to look like the Joker and used the drugs to kill the pain during the shooting?

I think more likely an LE member went to far and beat him in the face. They don't want the photo released for all to see given the sensitivity of a lawsuit and possible charges against the LEO.

Im thinking police ask where do you live or ask if your addess on license correct and killer may have said Dont bother going its booby trap.

Or you'll never get in. Officer ask why you say that, killer says joking its booby trap.

I think he told them in a smart azz way.

This part is baffling. The thought that comes to my mind is he took some perverse enjoyment from telling LE in advance in order for them to spend hours trying to dismantle his set-up. In other words, to LE: "see if you're smarter than I am".

He also may be taking some pleasure in seeing his neighbors displaced.

Ok, so that could have been part of it, but I'm saying his experience during that first year of graduate school could also be a part of it. Many people go into it thinking it's what they want, and then realize that it's not. Perhaps the pressure and work load was too much for him. And in his case, if he was already feeling down from not being able to find work before, it may have been even worse. There can also be a lot of drama in grad school. Some people work with advisors that are not as helpful or attentive or have opposing work styles and this could really ruin someone's experience in their graduate program. If he was working in a lab, there also could have been issues there as well.

Amen.

I know there's this public perception of grad school as "salad days" full of casual reading and contemplation, and lots of random sex. That was not my experience nor that of anyone I know. Simply dealing with the infighting among faculty members can be like walking through a mine field!

Before you know it, going to the theater will be like going through security at an airport.
Except that, he did not bring the firearms through regular channels. He propped open the back door, and brought his arsenal in that way. Otherwise put, airport-like security for theaters would be moot. Esp since movie exits must remain unlocked (from the inside) in the event of a fire or other catastrophe. The only other protection, that I can see, is for security to patrol theater exits, as already advised in the DoJ's May 17th, 2012, Theater Security Advisory. ( PDF )

I'm sorry, gotta say. Have been biting my tongue...

All these "well, if one of them had a gun" arguments: It's just more second-guessing the victims. It's disrespectful. It's no better than Marky Mark saying he could have brought down the hijackers on 9/11 if he had been on one of the planes (google it if you aren't sure what I am talking about). No disrespect intended. I'm just frustrated, because, this is how I see it: I am anti-gun. I have never held one nor do I intend to in my lifetime. Suppose I were in that theatre, and laws did not stop me from having a concealed weapon, but instead my own conscience, and I was shot and killed. Would you say it was my fault for not backing gun possession, for not "protecting" myself enough? No. That would be cruel. Let's not second guess the victims, in ANY form.

I get it.....

I'd like to say this though.....and it is not gun related.

On 9-11 people on planes died and attempted nothing because they didn't have the advantage of knowing what the Todd Beamer crew did.

And even though that plane went down it probably saved people in D.C.

None of those victims are to blame.

In light of this tragedy people will be more watchful, cautious, willing to fight, willing to watch for clues.............that is my hope.

Why no one in the audience shot back--disarmed, so only thugs have guns:

Currently in Aurora, Colorado, where the shooting took place, it is already unlawful to carry a concealed "dangerous weapon," discharge firearms, unless by law enforcement on duty or on shooting range, and have loaded firearm in motor vehicle.

Even if someone else had a gun, unless they were trained how to act under that kind of stress, I don't think that would have helped. I think they would have been stunned, as others seemed to be.

When i was a kid there were many theatre workers patrolling the aisles and stationed at the exits. They had flashlights to escort people to seats and tell kids to stop throwing popcorn etc. Even these measure wouldn`t have stopped him. He likely would have picked a different venue. I do hope extra safety in Theatres is put in place. If people stay away in fear he wins.

With the tear gas and the fact he had protective gear it would be futile :moo:

Agree. Also, one witness who was interviewed commented that the perp 'kicked the door open". Either the perp had it cracked with something preventing complete closure or that theater door did not open to the outside! I believe it did open to the outside (something about fire code in public places) and he did prop it open somehow and that no one in the theater would have noticed it being held open because it was dark. But it would seem to me that for safety anyway, the area outside the Exit doors would be well lit??!!

Since i dont hunt thugs I guess I`m good.

You hunt them when they do a home invasion of your house and want to rape your teenage daughter....

The slayings of seven people during a home-invasion robbery in Indianapolis last week spotlights a trend in several cities around the nation: This terrifying crime is on the rise. It's difficult to quantify the increase because such robberies aren't a separate crime category that the ...

I am not for or against guns. I would imagine that if someone had had a concealed weapon at this theater, tried to use it, it would have only added to the chaos. It was dark, there was smoke everywhere and the gunman was covered in head-to-toe gear to protect himself. Maybe it would have enraged him further. Also, the person trying to protect everyone with his or her concealed weapon may have shot others in the confusion because of all the smoke, noise etc. Again, I am not saying guns are good or bad. Where I live, our mayor basically said to cut the budget on robberies and there would be no police investigations. Well it was a free for all. Suddenly our robberies went up and they became very violent too; pistol-whipping people in the head. Luckily for us, our new mayor stepped in and put cops on the home invasions again and our robberies went down. I have to say that if I felt vulnerable, and robberies continued to increase, I might invest in a gun. I have never used one and would like to remain gun-free but I can see things changing. It is a scary world we live in.
