Paraphrasing, my feed kept breaking up.

"at this time we don't know this, we don't know that, nobody is a suspect at this time, we're working on this, waiting on that, but your children are safe, this is an isolated case" = we know who did it?

What I find a little strange, that none of the neighbors seem to know or be friendly with her family. One would hope at least they trusted and were friendly with neighbors to allow her to freely roam.
In my neighborhood there are tons of children that roam and every summer a few are "missing for a bit" As soon as that happens, LE is called and every neighbor starts looking. Only once was a child missing for more than an hour that I'm aware of. Our town has some sort of auto dialer that calls every house with description. Which is very cool... But they tend not to update when the child is found.
Isn't it odd that after dad was knocking on doors... More neighbors didn't help him search??? I find that very odd!

In my head I'm imagining a dialog;
"knocking and frantic, Hi I'm looking for my little girl. I haven't seen her since (?) o'clock. She's only 6, you probably recognize her.

Neighbor: "OK, calm down.... let's call the police and get all neighbors alerted." "I'll help you look."

:twocents: Here where I live, when something happens, we all go outside. (ie: Hurricane Sandy ). We start talking with each other. Are you OK? Many friendly "dog walkers" on my street. Everyone says Hi. So even though we may not be real close, I have at least 3 good neighbors I trust in case of emergency.

Outside of the tragic murder of the child, this is a perfect example of why people should have their facebook pages completely devoid of personal information. Hopefully their "colorful" lifestyle has nothing to do with this, but regardless, it's out there for the world to see now. As well as all of their colorful "friends."

I did not have time to read all the pages of this thread....quick question has the information about there being decomposition changed?

Regarding the relationship statuses. I wouldn't read much into them, it could be a joke. I have a younger cousin who is 19 and his status says married. He doesn't even have a girlfriend. I always thought complicated meant the relationship was "complicated" to explain like we're not together anymore but we still live together.....so maybe the polyamorus (sp) thing is true.

Article reports TOD as 7:33 p.m.... right before kids found her...

so decomposition should have been minimal...

I really try not to judge victim's parents parenting style but I am so shocked by this. I just can not comprehend how any parent can allow their 6 year old on their own without a buddy let alone not worry from 2pm to 8pm. To not know if they've eaten, to not know exactly who's home they are playing at, to know that if it's sunny they have sun block reapplied, not fallen and hurt or something. I can't get my head around it. 6 years old is so, so young to fend for yourself.

I don't know about the law in the US, but in the UK it is illegal to leave a child under 12 alone at home for any length of time (and I consider 6 hours a length of time!). If a child should not be left alone in the home for that long, they shouldn't be alone outside the home for anything like that either without being supervised or at the very, very least 'check-in'.

OK rant over. I do truely feel so incredibly bad for this family and for what happened to this little girl. It's beyond comprehension. I don't blame the parents, no one should go through this. I just really wish people would think of all the dangers that children can run into. It only takes one bad thing to happen to change a child's life forever.

I agree. My son had to tell me where he was going and what time he would be home until I shipped him off to college. There was no curfew, just tell me what time to expect you. If 1/2 hour late, I start making phone calls.

There's no way I would ever let my 6 year fend for themselves on the street. I would walk them or drive them to neighbors and friends, greet the parents and tell them I'll be back @ (?) o'clock to pick him up.

I'm old, I do things differently.

I personally do not think the family's lifestyle has any bearing on what happened to little Alanna and IMO they are not involved with her death. Also, IMO as far as the contents taken from the residence:
1.They are are very active family that participates in outdoor activities and SCA events.
2.The father is a member of the TX Guard. To me that explains a lot, especially all of the different colors of tape and the tarp, etc.

My heart aches for this family. They remind me a lot of some of my friends and family.

This is a great post and I agree with all of it. Like someone else said earlier, kids have more a chance of being hit by a car/ice cream truck than being abducted. I tend to be overly cautious but am really trying to chill a little and give my kids a little space and not constantly watch them. It's hard though - especially in the summer when they want to run and play without a care in the world. Obviously there are precautions to take but at the same time, what are we (general we) doing to our kids if we hover over them 24 hrs a day. Still, in the scope of things, these incidents are very rare. More of a chance of dying in a car accident on the way to the library than being snatched off the street by a killer.

Overall, I agree with this. But I'm sorry, I just don't think a five year old should have the same freedom as an eight or nine year old does. MOO.

Who last saw the child, and at what time, should not be an answer the family can't give. I just do not understand this.

Ya, I do find this very odd. Maybe they all thought somebody else was keeping track of her (3 parents and 2 other older kids). That doesn't sit well with me at all.

I read about red tape a few pages back. Is it msm...a fact...that there was red tape found on her?

Red tape seems noteworthy. I am thinking that if she was bound with red tape this crime may not have been planned in advance. Red tape is available at the hardware store but is not as common as other colors of tape...

“Mom, it’s a little girl,” he told her.
She could not believe him at first. But she and her husband soon rushed to the scene, where they confirmed their son’s grisly discovery. Whiddon called 911 about 7:26 p.m."

I REALLY hope the TOD was wrong. I can't bear to think she could have been resuscitated.
