About the vigil last night...

It was a deep and meaningful experience for me to be there around these very beautiful, however saddened, family members and friends of Adrienne. I've never encountered feelings like these before, fortunately, and so it was very different and exceedingly personal.

I've been to a lot of funerals where afterwards everyone is laughing and telling jokes even and there is such a relief in the fact that they can all get together to pay their respects to the dearly departed that you would hardly believe someone had just been buried.

It wasn't exactly like that, not like that at all because Adrienne is still very very much missing, but the smiles on their faces as they spoke about Adrienne were the smiles of people who have very much faith in God and who put their faith above all else. It made me happy to know they will always have some peace in their hearts because of their faith, even if I do not necessarily share their same spiritual beliefs.

I am highly spiritual and hardly religious. Because of my own brand of spirituality I do call on a higher spirit in times of need, but last night standing there with this grieving family, I could not help but think of the Thomas Paine quote: "These are the times that try men's souls."

It brought tears to my eyes to be around these people, so full of love, so full of faith, so filled with belief in their God and so full of hope that their beloved Adrienne will come home.

Suzanne, Adrienne's mother, was so beautiful and so sweet. One of the most gracious women I have ever met in my entire lifetime. She must have hugged me ten times to thank me for being there for Adrienne. I could tell that she is exhausted. She introduced me to Dalia, one of Adrienne's aunts. And Dalia was also very gracious, warm and friendly.

As I was walking towards that gathering, the storm was moving in and the wind had begun to blow quite hard. Scattered raindrops were falling and it looked like all hell was going to break loose any minute. Some people were leaving for their the shelter of their cars. Flash flood warnings were in effect and the news and TV vans were preparing to pull out to get out of the area before the monsoon hit.

One of the Fox News guy stopped me to talk to me as I was walking by. He didn't know anything new. He shared his opinion that Adrienne might still come home and recounted how recently a young woman in Colorado had been found after being missing for twenty years.

Rick sat on a picnic table and quietly talked about Adrienne. His sadness was all engulfing. He in no way believes that the woman spotted on the video at O'Reilly's was Adrienne. He wants to believe with all his heart she will come home. And yet you can tell he is very afraid that this will never happen. It is all he can do to crack even half a smile. He is a broken man. A man who knows too well the dangers in this world and a man who truly misses his angel daughter with every fiber of his being.

The plastic container next to where he sat on the edge of the picnic table had been once full of fliers with Adrienne's pictures and yet when I spoke to him it was empty. He gave me the last flier in it. Friends of the family and friends of Adrienne's left the area with hands full of fliers to take out and distribute and with hopes of helping in whatever small way they can.

Francisco, the boyfriend, was there with his mother and his father, who were also very warm and friendly. We spoke for a few minutes and he was anxious to share with me. He spoke of that last night with Adrienne and his sorrow and how much he wants her to come home, to be found. He talked about things they were planning to help find her, events they were organizing and told me he would welcome my participation. His genuine compassion and complete sorrow and grief did not go undetected by me. I am convinced that he had nothing to do with her disappearance.

I am so glad I went there last night. While it was, for the most part, a small and somber gathering of friends and family sharing in their grief, sharing their memories of Adrienne, sharing their hope she will come home soon, it was also somewhat cathartic. I felt so much better when I left than I did before I got there.

I now feel closer to Adrienne than I ever have. I know I have been welcomed into her inner circle of family and friends and their love and warmth has given me a better understanding of why her father keeps insisting that she "did not run away".

Miss, on behalf of all of us Websleuthers, thank you for representing. My heart breaks for this family and I truly hope they have answers soon. I don't think I'm really posing this question to anyone, just my own mind.. But why were there no weekly vigils or events to find her in the first month that she was missing?? Everything ramped up just in recent..why not at the very beginning? It makes me wonder if maybe there was some critical evidence within the first days of her disappearance that led them to believe she was coming home? Or was it pure shellshock until reality set in weeks later? Honestly, it's never sat right with me...so quiet in the critical hours..:banghead:

I just made a VERY worrisome finding.

Apparently Jack Culolias's friends claim that when he disappeared on 11/30/2012, a cop had forced jack into a taxi cab and that was the last time he was seen!!!

" On Friday night November 30th, at approximately 11:00 PM, Jack Culolias was reportedly escorted from a popular bar named Cadillac Ranch in the Tempe Marketplace by a security guard and/or police officer. Eyewitnesses say he was then forced into a taxicab, but officials have not confirmed this aspect of the case yet. The California native left behind his wallet and his cell phone, and no one has seen or heard from him since."

http://killingkillers.blogspot.com/2012/12/smiley-never-sleeps.html?m=1

This is really freaking me out. His body was found in near Tempe Town Lake in a riverbed I believe.

There was also Willy Rigby who was known to be happy and generous. He was found in Tempe Town Lake in January of 2011 a few weeks after disappearance, leaving a party and walking home to McClintock and University only to never be seen alive again.

http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2013/05/ex-asu_student_found_dead_in_t.php

I would NOT be walking around Tempe alone ... And considering what happened to Jack and AS, I don't know if I'd call a cab or trust the police either after reading about jack.

What I remember of Jack's case, he was thrown out of The Cadillac Ranch because of inappropriate behavior by the bouncer, not a cop. He wasn't put in a cab he was last seen walking away. He was found a few weeks later at Tempe Town Lake. His mother came from CA and found one of his red tennis shoes on the shore. IIRC

The date of the article you quoted was December 6, before his body was found. The writer states that the cab story had not been confirmed. As it turns out, it is true that he was escorted out of the bar, and a bouncer claims he did tell JC to take a cab. Eventually his body turned up in the Salt River. There is some question about how he reached the area where his body was located.

Later in the night, several people saw Culolias urinating on the balcony, the document shows. Security was notified and he was escorted out of the bar, where he was seen leaving down the south stairwell. One bouncer said he told Culolias to go to the cabs.

On Dec. 16, his body was pulled from an area of the Salt River northeast of Tempe Marketplace.

One of the biggest questions police will now try to answer is how Culolias made it from the bar to where his body was found. The distance is more than 300 yards and requires climbing a fence and traversing a steep embankment into the river bed.

Willie Jigba drowned in the lake after walking home from a party on January 15, 2011. It was said that he tried to catch a ride home with others at the party, but he was turned down. :(

Jigba's roommate, said that after Jigba disappeared, people he talked to at the party said he tried to get a ride home but someone refused. So he decided to walk the approximately 2 1/2 miles home from an apartment near Curry and Scottsdale roads to their apartment near University and McClintock drives.

Another young man drowned in Tempe Town Lake in late May of this year.

Tempe Police Department spokeswoman Molly Enright said police quickly retrieved the body, later identified as 21-year-old Tempe resident Gerrick Begay. Investigators are not sure how Begay wound up in the lake.

SBM, BBM - IIRC, Jack wasn't found in the Salt river he is another one found in Tempe Town Lake (or perhaps the Salt River nearby, in Jack's case, as it would seem).

"Just after 10 a.m. on Dec. 16, 2012, while the sun peered out from behind scattered clouds, a 15-day search for missing ASU student Jack Culolias culminated when volunteer search and rescue teams located his body in Tempe Town Lake."

and, lots of articles from before and after he was found reference the taxi, even campus police say that's where he was headed... so IMHO it shouldn't be discounted --

"Campus police said his friends saw him heading to a taxi cab and never saw him again."
http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_southeast_valley/tempe/pd-body-found-near-tempe-town-lake
(then again, THIS link above says in the river. everything else I've ever seen or read said in the lake.. now I'm confused.)

"Culolias was last seen on Nov. 30 after being kicked out of a Tempe bar during a party sponsored by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

"Nineteen-year-old Culolias was last seen getting into a taxi at Cadillac Ranch Tempe Marketplace about 11 p.m.,"

"Police say they've gotten reports that the freshman was seen getting into a taxi outside the bar"

(just a couple of mentions of the taxi - what would it hurt LE to see what company they said the cab he got into was from?)

One thing we know for sure: In several instances in the past couple of years, drunk ASU students who don't have rides end up disappearing, not being seen by anyone for a period of time, then in the Tempe Town Lake.

The lack of a ride in each case leaves me curious as to whether cabs were called in each instance.

I find this incredibly compelling along with the myriad of other things that I've come across in the past few days.

OMG GGE. Thank YOU!

I thought so!

Additionally, there's no way IMO to "accidentally" fall into the lake when walking across the bridge bc there is a high barricade on either side. There is not a large drop into the water so you can't die from the impact on the water.

There's absolutely NO WAY to fall into that lake unless you intentionally climb over the barriers and jump. even if you fall, you'll just end up 15 feet down max while looking up and treading water.

I have no clue how these kids could just "wander" into the lake.

I went to ASU. I have a very close interest in these cases. This could have been me. :(

Thank you! I wish they would call that portion of the salt River "salt creek". It's become significantly barren/dried up :(

I'm thinking maybe someone should start a separate thread to start sleuthing these Tempe Town Lake "drownings". Going to try and do it now. If I find one already exists, I'll link it here. :)

And the forever confounding fact:

If LE said they had no reason to believe AS was in the lake, then why did the FBI swoop in to do the search for her this time? Maybe the Feds don't trust Tempe PD to look for her properly?

Sure the FBI has more advanced tools to search for a body, but I think there's something deeper here.

I thought FBI only got involved of the case involved crossing state lines? Confused... Very puzzled here (as usual. Lol)

The FBI wasn't involved in the lake search. The lake was searched due to close proximity to her residence.

Officers said they have no specific reason to believe her body is in the water, but they searched it with sonar to make sure.

Authorities Monday night were using robots with sonar to search the lake bottom. The only reason they are searching the lake is to rule out the possibility that she might be in there, officers said.

The lake search was scheduled to continue until midnight.

"One of the things we want to rule out is any possibility of her being here in the lake," said Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley. "We're checking the lake because it was so close to where she was last seen."

Deputies and officers were also searching Tempe Town Lake, digging through bushes and searching abandoned buildings as they looked for clues.

Last week, Tempe police said they were consulting with the FBI to make sure they are doing everything possible find Salinas.

FBI gets involved in cases upon request of local LE for lots of reasons, usually for extra manpower and equipment not available to the local agencies, as well as data-related stuff.

Morning y'all~

Taking into account GGE's "feelings and dreams" and some other information we have surmized, we might do well to investigate a little further into Albuquerque.
I have not began looking into missing persons in that area because it looks like there are many.
Just my thoughts for this am. No idea where it could lead.

This could also be a reason FBI is "involved"
