UK- London Nine injured in suspected acid attack, children among injured 01/31/24

From the Mail article linked above.

A spokesperson for the Church of England said: 'This is clearly a shocking and distressing incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by it.

'It is the role of the Home Office, and not the Church, to vet asylum seekers and judge the merits of their individual cases.'

An asylum support worker who knew wanted man Abdul Ezedi said he was shocked by the violence he is accused off.

The charity worker, based near Newcastle city centre, checked his records and said Ezedi was from Iran, not Afghanistan as had previously been thought .

Ezedi was placed on sex offender register for 10 years

Reporting from Clapham

Newcastle Crown Court has confirmed to the BBC from court records that Abdul Shokoor Ezedi was placed on the sex offender register for 10 years when he was sentenced for two offences on 9 January 2018.

The offences were sexual assault and exposure.

The total sentence was 45 weeks’ imprisonment which was suspended for two years.
He was also required to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

A second attempt was also refused - but Ezedi appealed, saying he had converted to Christianity, and therefore would have been at risk if he had returned to Afghanistan, where he is believed to be from.

A church witness told the appeals tribunal that he believed Ezedi had converted to Christianity.

His appeal was successful in 2020, and he was granted asylum.

Playing the system oh so nicely…
Re
the "church witness"

The naivety of some people is astounding

This is the dramatic moment police in hazmat suits raid a home in east London amid the search for Clapham chemical attack fugitive Abdul Ezedi.

Ezedi, 35, is accused of carrying out a 'targeted' attack on a mother and her two daughters, aged three and eight - believed to be known to him - on Wednesday night.

Despite police yesterday saying they were 'wholeheartedly confident' of capturing him, he remains at large three days after the incident.

This morning, police in hazmat suits were seen raiding a property in Leyton with the Sun reporting that officers had smashed the doors in shortly after 2am.

The London Fire Brigade also confirmed they had attended the scene as a precaution.

Mother remains 'very poorly' in hospital

Commander Jon Savell is addressing reporters now.

The 31-year-old mother remains very poorly and is sedated, he says, and her injuries are expected to be life-changing.

As for the two young children that were with her, aged eight and three, their injuries are not as serious as first thought, Savell says.

He adds that "a large team of very experienced detectives" are leading the manhunt to find Ezedi.

Search warrants on properties revealed significant evidence

Met police are working closely with various police and Transport for London to search for Ezedi.

Cdr Savell added that a large team of detectives are leading the manhunt all the way up to Northumbria. He said that last night five search warrants took place, two in east London and three in Newcastle and the police have uncovered significant evidence.

He urged the public to help find Ezedi by calling 999 if they see him, but not to approach him.

BREAKING

Last known sighting of Ezedi on London Tube heading south

Savell has been giving a rundown of the timeline of what detectives know:
  • Ezedi left Newcastle in the very early hours of Wednesday morning, and travelled to London.
  • At 06:30 he was in the Tooting area, and there was a further sighting of his vehicle at 16:30 in Croydon and then at about 19:00 he was in the Stretham area
  • The attack took place at 19:25 in Clapham, and at 19:33 he boarded a train at Clapham South Tube station
  • At 20:00 he was at Kings Cross station and about 20:45 he was captured on CCTV footage at Tescos with significant facial injuries
  • We now know that at 21:00, he got on a Victoria Line tube heading south

This has gone on a long while. In my opinion he is either being looked after by somebody in the London area or is not alive.
I now see that he actually travelled South by tube so more chance I think that he is still alive. It all seems a bit strange as he was struggling to cross a road in the earlier CCTV footage.

'Do the right thing and hand yourself in'

Cdr Savell finished the conference by making a plea to Abdul Shokoor Ezedi himself.

He said: "I am going to make a personal appeal to him: Abdul you've clearly got some serious injuries and clearly need some medical help.

"So do the right thing and hand yourself in."

"Life changing injuries"? Probably blind. That is beyond cruelty. INMO, there isn't a punishment harsh enough for this type of crime.
It's probably substantial damage to her face too. Just looking what he did to himself by accident with whatever that stuff was he threw at her, she must be in far worse condition. </3
