cannot say that fuel rods are not melting...

half of the rods are still exposed..

something wrong with vent flap

(cnn live)

no... they keep calling the explosion a "big sound"

big sound my cula!
yep they keep saying they "heard" - I guess that means the explosion was inside the containment and could not be seen and did not blow out the containment. So, all they did was "hear it". Oh IDK anymore.

CNN is back with Piers Morgan and he's got Anderson Cooper on the ground. Talking about the reactor again.

some workers at number 2 are now being evacuated: those not being used to help cool the reactor.

it was 3 atmospheric pressure and is now 1 atmospheric pressure which means that there could be cracks where gas or liquid could have leaked out

supression pool last line of defense for radiation leaking out

((cnn live))

ronald reagan has been relocated ((the ship))

per cnn live

also that helicopters have had to have radioactive dust washed off after flying over number 1

over 200 aftershocks have hit since the main quake..

there could be another 6 aftershock ((on japanese scale 0-7)) which could trigger more tsunami

((cnn live))

Fellow sleuthers-- I have been reading your comments and am very frightened and upset about what is happening. I am concerned for all living things on the Earth, and my prayers go to the Japanese people who are enduring an unimaginable horror.

This website -- World Nuclear News -- seems to has up-to-date information about contamination of the public as well as casualties, injuries and contamination of workers. I check it a few times a day.

What happens if the workers just say,'the heck with this. I'm outta here"? What will happen? Will all the reactors just blow? How long can the workers just stay there and pour water on this thing. Won't the salt from the water eventually just deteriorate everything anyway? I pray for the poor people of Japan and all of mankind that is going to be effected.

I heard that rain is expected tomorrow which will stop the radiation from blowing around, but will bebad for the area near the plant as the radiation will sink into the ground.

Also, someone advised me if you can't find potassium iodine, that kelp from a healthfood store might be effective.

from your link:

Opening the relief valve made injection possible again, but after a time pressure relief was again required. Injection has continued since that second venting operation but gauges still do not indicate that water levels are rising.

The Japan Atomic Industry Forum reported back statements from the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) saying that Tepco made a notification at 8.50pm that some fuel rods were presumed broken, based on radiation detected.

lol, not to worry.........look what I found:

If no tablets available, you can topically (on the skin) apply an iodine solution, like tincture of iodine or Betadine, for a similar protective effect. (WARNING: Iodine solutions are NEVER to be ingested or swallowed.) For adults, paint 8 ml of a 2 percent tincture of Iodine on the abdomen or forearm each day, ideally at least 2 hours prior to possible exposure. For children 3 to 18, but under 150 pounds, only half that amount painted on daily, or 4 ml. For children under 3 but older than a month, half again, or 2 ml. For newborns to 1 month old, half it again, or just 1 ml. (One measuring teaspoon is about 5 ml, if you don't have a medicine dropper graduated in ml.) If your iodine is stronger than 2%, reduce the dosage accordingly. Absorption through the skin is not as reliable a dosing method as using the tablets, but tests show that it will still be very effective for most. Do not use if allergic to iodine.

Man, watching the news is just making me want to CRY! People are hungry. Bodies are strewn around with no way to dispose of them. Humanitarians can't get in there. And those who ARE brave enough to go in are putting their own lives at risk because of the nuclear plants.

This is just beyond horrible!

:praying:

Also, with the number of bodies that have recently washed ashore, some communities unable to perform cremations, etc, I am curious how they are able to positively identify all of the dead? Dental records and DNA may not be of much help, in some cases, in my opinion. MOO

Infection is main risk with radiation sickness--

Quote:
Nevertheless, at least three Fukushima workers have already come down with acute radiation sickness. Since it's unclear how much radioactive material they were exposed to, what kind of radiation, and for how long, their prognosis is uncertain.

"There isn't enough information and a lot of people are doing some guessing as to who has been exposed to what," CTV medical specialist Avis Favaro said.

I know it's been said before but I want to say it again...

The word "possible" in every report of a meltdown is driving me bonkers. Why can't they fess up and admit it... There have been meltdown's occurring since when? Saturday?

I understand the saving face but people need to be prepared...
