6.9 Quake in China, hundreds dead
Some 300 people are feared dead after a rapid series of strong earthquakes hit a mountainous and impoverished area of China's Qinghai province early Wednesday, according to state-run television CCTV. CCTV reported 8,000 others were injured and many people, including primary schoolchildren, were buried under debris after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck at 7:49 a.m. local time (7:49 p.m. ET Tuesday), when many people were probably still at home and schools were beginning the day.
The USGS also recorded several strong aftershocks -- one of magnitude 5.8 -- all within hours of the first quake.
Wow, seems like since the Haitian earthquake that there are other earthquakes happening around the world on an almost weekly basis. Prayers for those affected in China.

This just shows the difference between construction and, or, where the quake hits.
Seriously, I'm a native Californian and have felt MANY earthquakes since the '70's.....Sure, some are stronger than others and yes............we've had some casualties. But this earthquake today was milder than what we felt here in California on Easter. There are 1000's of people displaced in Mexico and the same earthquake felt here in Calif we have nobody displaced and MUCH less damage.
This is devastating and my heart goes out to the people involved in this latest display of *Mother Nature's* power.
