Fulton County authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying the body of a man found Thursday on abandoned farm property.

Senior Deputy Walker Conley of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday that police received a call at 5:40 p.m. Thursday that a body had been discovered in a milk house at a farm on U.S. 31 north of Indiana 110 near the Fulton-Marshall County line.

Police were told, Conley said, that they would find a gun with the body.

When Conley, Fulton County Sheriff Roy Calvert, the coroner, other officers, and Fulton County EMS arrived about 20 minutes later, they found the body just as the caller had advised.

“The body had been there an extended amount of time,” Conley said Saturday from his office. “We called in an entomologist.”

“The body had a single gunshot wound to the head ...,” Conley continued. “And there was a small amount of money on the body.”

Also found was a distinctive belt buckle clipped to the belt around the victim’s waist, Conley said.

Authorities think the victim may have been a transient.
