19 Jan 10

The family of a missing Yakima man is offering a reward for information leading to his return.

Larry Riegel's relatives say they haven't heard from him since Christmas. His sister, Susan Riegel Vaughn, says she has concerns about whether he's still alive, given the amount of time and lack of sightings.

His girlfriend told police she last saw him Jan. 4, when they argued.

Relatives are asking anyone with information about Riegel's whereabouts to call the Yakima police detective assigned to the case at 509-576-6573.

They are also launching a Web site, www.findlarryriegel.com, and listing the case with the National Center for Missing Adults, among other efforts.

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Most days you can find Cecelia Downey out looking for her 58-year-old son, Larry Riegel.

She and her daughter, Candy Jarvis, are out every day posting fliers at restaurants and businesses across the Valley, seeking information about Riegel's whereabouts.

A contract pilot for Cub Crafters, he planned to attend a dinner at his mom's house on Pleasant Avenue in Yakima the day after Christmas. But he never showed.

YAKIMA, Wash. -- The sister of a missing Yakima man hopes billboards will help find her missing brother.

Susan Riegel told KNDO Thursday, the family purchased three billboards with a large image of Larry Riegel, who has been missing since December.

Reigel's sister said the billboards were put up Tuesday and will run for an entire month in Yakima.

Press Release 7/16/10
Our family continues to be devastated by the disappearance of Larry who has now been missing for 202 days. This week we have kicked off a billboard program within the Yakima city limits to remind people of this active police investigation. We are hopeful that this program will bring in new tips and information on Larrys disappearance.

The investigation to date has had starts and stops. We ask all parties involved to please give their full cooperation to the police, including that of LaDena Mann, Larrys live-in girlfriend. We believe the timelines, dates and explanations she has given to family, friends and law enforcement to date have not been consistent. This has created increased suspicion and interest on our part.

There have been a number of rumors concerning sightings of Larry, mysterious phone calls and phantom car rides, but its our understanding none of these can be verified by the YPD. Without verification, these stories are just that....stories.

Collectively, all of this activity has only made Larrys disappearance that much harder to investigate and resolve. Regardless of what some may say, Larrys disappearance was not planned. His life and regular activities have been completely severed. We are extremely concerned that his disappearance is the result of foul play. We feel someone somewhere knows more than what they are saying and we are imploring them to please come forward. Please contact Det. Blankenbaker at the Yakima Police Department, 509-575-6200, with information.

UPDATE JULY 13 2010
It's been 200 days since Larry went missing. If you have any credible tips or information, we ask that you please contact Det. Blankenbaker at the Yakima Police Department, 509-575-6200.

A new billboard program kicked off within the city limits of Yakima this week. Larry's missing person poster will go up on 3 billboards, they are located at 1St and Beech; North 1st and Lincoln; and 6th Ave and Nob Hill. It's anticipated this kind of advertising will reach approximately 25% of the population. Our family would like to thank Jennifer B. at CBS Outdoors for her assistance and willingness to work with us in getting this program off the ground. The goal of the program is to appeal to and attract the attention of a larger audience.

We'd like to thank Mayor Cawley and the offices of Senator Patty Murray and Representative Rick Larsen for their help in finding resources to further this investigation. We're hopeful these additional resources will assist the YPD and other Law Enforcement Agencies to follow up on the leads received to date.

We're also kicking off a new concentrated effort of missing posters around town. We want to remind people there is a reward offered for information leading to Larry's recovery.

We are making headway on our next Fundraising venture in August. We are planning a large Multi-Family Yard Sale. Look for date and time information in upcoming updates. We already had a large Yard Sale in Snohomish. The outpouring of support from the Snohomish Community was phenomenal. People felt the connection and wanted to help, it was a great feeling! We want to thank everyone who has donated their time and money to this investigation.

My brother had a lot of friends, people who miss him and want answers to his disappearance. Please keep Larry in your thoughts and prayers.

~S. Riegel

After nearly a year, search for missing man goes on

Police on Saturday announced that detectives consider the disappearance of a Yakima man suspicious; he hasn't been seen since January.

Investigators before had said only that they were investigating Larry Riegel's whereabouts.

[snip]

No leads have been substantiated, and Riegel hasn't used bank accounts or made contact with friends or family, police and relatives say.

[snip]

Any information about the case may be reported to Detective Mike Blankenbaker at 576-6573 or to Riegel Vaughn at 425-293-5564.

Thanks SWMNBN, It seems so odd to me he has been gone a year and not found. I guess because in the NW we often have older people disappear who wander off or get lost driving. I'd have to research to see who is missing who isn't yet found. Gee. I otta' do that. ;}
