    Lead Found in Women's Handbags

The Center for Environmental Health went to 100 of the nation's top retailers -- including Target, Macy's, Wal-Mart and Kohl's -- and bought purses.

The group had the bags tested for lead at an independent lab. Two separate tests were conducted. Some bags were wiped to see how much, if any, lead would simply rub off the material. The bags also were tested for the total lead content of the products.

The tests came back showing disturbingly high levels of lead, the Center for Environmental Health said.

"This is something every woman of childbearing age ought to be paying attention to," said Dr. Alan Greene, a lead expert and pediatrician at Stanford University.
    ....
The concern with many of the purses is that lead can rub off of the bag and end up on people's hands, or on children's hands and then into their mouths.

What we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
But if that drop was not in the ocean,
I think the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.

If you go to any of the stores mentioned and try to find anything that is NOT made in China, you will spend hours. I tried to buy things for Christmas that were not made in China and I spent a lot of time looking in stores and online.

It seems everything is made in China - pajamas, slippers, purses, hats, ties, shoes, clothing, dishes, kitchen gadgets, outdoor gadgets, etc. Very little of anything is made in the USA, or so it seems.

    Question

Hmmmm... Wonder what specific brands of purses were affected. Sometimes I buy mine at Target, but lately, I really prefer the purses at Burlington Coat Factory.

The Center for Environmental Health has sent a notice of violation to manufacturers and retailers where the tainted items were purchased, including: Target, Walmart, Macy's, Kohl's, Sears, JC Penny's, and Ross.

Some of the brands include: Nine West, Rosetti and Xhilaration from Target.

It would sure be nice if they told us *all* the brands if we're supposed to avoid them!!

    90 times the legal limit!!!!!!

I hope they get right onto checking diaper bags! This is so worrisome! Heck, I'd carry a paper bag if I was pregnant, either that, or make it myself. These unscrupulous manufacturers and retailers are going to spur an resurgence in the domestic arts!

Not a bad idea....if you want it done right...

I'm kind of worried about how cheap shoes are getting-- feet are so porous. Does anyone know a recipe for a good pair of boots, lol.

Where did you find them? What kind of bowls? Cereal? Soup? Mixing?

    Thanks,

Hello here is a web site for all things made in US. I think we should all find out where our food comes from, everyone eats.
