Also, why leave the swimsuit on her? it's very unusual for a female murder victim not to be raped, or otherwise sexually assaulted.

Would it be unusual for a woman victimized by their domestic partner not to be sexually assaulted? I'm thinking of a crime of passion committed by a boyfriend or husband, perhaps unplanned?

Possibly... maybe they were in a swimming pool or hot tub together... she "angers" him... he leaves and returns with a gun and shoots her dead in the pool/hot tub? That still doesn't explain why he would choose the mineshaft... and he must have known that the swimsuit could possibly identify her if the clothing was publicised?

Fair enough. Maybe not "slightly obese", but i would say heavier than average. Just looking at the postmortem, she appeared to have a bit of a double chin, but I suppose some of it might be postmortem bloat.

No, slightly obese is fairly correct. I'm 5'4" and trust me, my WiiFit has nothing nice to say to me when I'm in that range. The "ideal" weight for a 5'4" adult female around 120-129 pounds. This varies, some, based on age and frame, but anyway you slice it, 150-160 is far enough over to be borderline obese.

Isn't it odd how sometimes DNA remains for centuries and other times degrades within 10-20 years? They did some kind of profile on King Tut the other day and said his mom and dad were most likely brother and sister based on the genetic code or something or other. Does the treatment of the remains have something to do with how quickly DNA degrades?

I think the way the body was preserved definitely has something to do with it. Ancient Egyptian royalty surely had top of the line treatment for the time period, versus a murder victim whose body was an issue to be dealt with rather than a beloved treasure. He was preserved with care in a cool, dry area; she was dumped in a mine. But unfortunately, I can't help but also think that the budget for King Tut's autopsy was astronomically larger than Jane Doe's :(

I was thinking the same thing, if there was a non-sexual motive it may suggest a family member, and the bathing suit suggests a private place, a domestic garden perhaps. A swimsuit doesn't mean a swimming pool, a lot of ladies concerned with their weight cover up a little more even when sunbathing.

If this was a family affair it should be gnawing at someone's conscience; I wouldn't rule out a deathbed confession on this one, but time is marching on

My point was that there isn't anything out there for miles around, except a couple of casinos at the Nevada border and the city of Baker, which is almost entirely gas stations and fast food joints, and maybe a cheap motel or two. The very few permanent residents in that area don't have swimming pools or hot tubs. They live mostly in very low-budget mobile homes.

And in the open desert, people generally don't want to wander around in a swimsuit. The ground is rugged and dusty, the plant life is scratchy on the ankles, and there are a lot of insects and rattlesnakes.

I don't know the area; but when you added what you did; those were my thoughts on why she would have a bathing suit on. What about traveling to a beach? When I lived in North Jersey; we used to wear our swim suits under our clothes when we made the hour drive to Seaside.

Sorry, I should have separated my thoughts. I was looking at her NamUs profile where it said slightly obese. My daughter is similar build, most wouldn't think she's as heavy as she is. Here we have a "slightly obese" woman wearing a 2 piece swim suit in an area where there is no reason to wear one. That's why I was thinking hot tub/ sauna because it wouldn't matter "who" saw her because the person she was probably with has seen her with no clothes on

I think there could be a connection with Susan Rae Perron she went missing walking to a swimming pool on June 13,1971.Gerri Ann Ralston was found in a pond on May 21,1975.The killer might be leaving clues linking one murder to the next with the water and swimsuits.Gerri Ann Ralston was murdered on almost the same date as Jan Doe 778UFCA a year earlier. http://www.lvmpd.com/Sections/Homicide/CasesByYear/19701979/tabid/326/Default.aspx

I very seldom comment on these threads, but I so love reading how you guys splice these clues, that are few and far between, to kinda create a story. So much information, with so little evidence. You guys are truly a special breed.

I was reading an article recently about the life of a prostitute that indicated the bathing suit is "fantasy costume" that appeals to many clients, usually for women working in brothels. I thought of this woman and the Sheep Flats Jane Doe when I read that. I wonder if either of them could have been on their way to or from work when they were killed?

There are some swimming holes in the area and 1-2 hotsprings. Also remember that Lake Mead and Colorado River is 1-2 hours away. I can see some guy going with his date out for a weekend at the lake and...

Sorry that I'm a little bit off-topic here...

Since Ingrid Anderson was mentioned and since I can't post threads on my own, I thought that it would be a great opportunity to post a link to this discussion on Charley Project:

I had a thought that San Bernadino Jane Doe looks eerily like Ingrid Anderson - even sent an email to SB county sheriff, but never heard any replies back.

Thoughts?
