Parks was convicted by a Wilson County jury in 2013 on two counts of participating in the prostitution of a minor. He was released from prison after the North Carolina Court of Appeals overturned the convictions, citing lack of evidence.

He has several other previous convictions, including manslaughter and attempted first-degree and second-degree rape.

There's a new court date listed: June 5, 2017. I couldn't find any other info on Isabel's case or Parks' previous court date.

I was just about to post/paste what you posted for us above. Thanks for posting it! We've been looking all over for something, anything about this for weeks.

Although it is "Superior Court" -- the arena of trials in NC Courts, it does not always mean a trial will occur on that date. Sometimes it is just an on-the-record session for discussing motions, evidence, scheduling for a trial, etc., etc. We'll see. The timing is about right for a trial, however -- it usually takes about 2 years between arrest & actual trial. Let's hope this is the real thing.

Pretrial motions heard in Gregory Park murder case: http://www.wilsontimes.com/stories/pretrial-motions-heard-thursday-in-wilson,98888

Gregory Parks’ attorney argued Thursday [Oct. 5] that multiple statements his client gave to police prior to his 2015 arrest in the killing of 20-year-old Isabel Calvo Palacios shouldn’t be admissible in court because his client’s constitutional rights were violated.

But prosecutors say Parks wasn’t under arrest at the time he voluntarily gave statements to police, so they weren’t required to read him his rights.

Parks, 58, will stand trial in a Pitt County courtroom Oct. 23 for the 2015 first-degree murder and kidnapping in Palacios’ disappearance. He is accused of killing the young mother on July 31, 2015, according to arrest warrants.

There's more info about the hearing and the charges against Parks in the article.

(I can't figure out how to delete the thumbnail -- I went straight to the court site, not expecting to find any coverage, and was initially just going to mention the upcoming court date, but then I saw the article.)

Parks murder trial: DNA tests paint grim picture
http://www.reflector.com/Crime-and-...urder-trial-DNA-tests-paint-grim-picture.html

Over the course of the past two days, jurors in the Gregory Parks first-degree murder trial have listened to testimony from state crime lab experts in blood and DNA analysis.

Wilson Police Department forensic analysts took multiple items and blood samples from various areas in Parks’ Wilson home, including his bedroom where prosecutors contend 20-year-old Isabel “Chaveli” Palacios was killed.

There were many areas of Parks' home which tested positive for blood (like a bathroom rug, a candlestick, a door frame, the bedroom's interior dead bolt lock, a cutting from the discarded carpet padding) and all the DNA was a match for Palacios, no matches for Parks.

A lamp and a ring of Palacios' that Parks pawned tested positive for blood, but there were two DNA profiles: Palacios and an unknown contributor (not Parks).

A man named Ronald Parker had contact with Palacios at Parks' home before she went missing; Parks' attorney asked if Parker's DNA had been compared against the unknown DNA profiles. Parker's DNA had not been submitted.

Parker, who was at Parks’ home in the early morning hours of July 31, 2015, testified he had sex with Palacios there and left around 11 a.m. He also testified he received a phone call from her several hours later at 2:46 p.m., where he claimed she was screaming for help and that someone was hurting her.

Parks [I believe this should read "Parker"] didn’t report that call to police until three hours later when he and his cousin called 911 for a welfare check at Parks’ home.

A luminol test in the hallway revealed what forensic experts described as "drag marks" and foot impressions, but the carpet tested negative for blood.

There were some other dead ends: a hair in Parks' trunk that wasn't a match to Palacio or Parks (unknown male DNA); the hallway tub drain tested negative for blood; some black rubbery material and a bungee cord in the trunk of Parks' car tested negative for blood. However, the trunk was damp and had standing water in the wheel well, and the liquid there tested positive for blood, as did the carpet.
