Attention now focused on SOP's, where Galloway quotes Olckers on these being 'scientifically invalid' - Olckers agrees.

"SOP's are not guidelines, they must be followed" - Dr Olckers.

Galloway refers to Olckers summary, lists what documentation she didn't receive and is still waiting for. 4 SOPs, no explanation.

Galloway says Olckers is of the opinion that SOPs are to be followed religiously. Why compel lab to not follow their SOPs?

Refers to confidentiality, when SOPs handed over to Dr Olckers, she refused to sign the confidentiality agreement, as per SOPs.

Olckers says in the past lab had a different looking agreement. She asked if doc changed, said not. Refused to sign

Agreement says she must keep confidential any information received from FSL (lab), info about FSL, reports and info gathered.

Won't use info for her benefit, which Olckers says means she can't be paid for a case as she is benefiting monetarily.

Doc first given to her after meeting between her and members of FSL. They were only commissioners of oath. Wasn't comfortable asking.

Dr Olckers didn't attest or sign the confidentiality document. Read through it but could not sign because it was "too wide".

Desai says she could have taken it to a different commissioner of oaths, delete sections that she doesn't want on forms.

Galloway: Creates impression you're willing to comply with SOPs as far as it suits you. Olckers says in future she will draft own.

Galloway questioning Olckers about double standards: not signing this document yet advocating the importance of sticking to SOP's

I've been reading all night and I've finally caught up! :woohoo:

I completely forgot it was starting again last night; no wonder with so many adjournments, it's just ridiculous that it's dragged on so long. As I recall, it was autumn when I joined these threads, and I was looking forward to six months or so of cool weather ahead ... and here it is still going, and it was so hot today I abandoned my plan to get out in the garden and plant a few things. Unreal.

Also unreal, that complaint yesterday from Henri that he didn't like Judge Desai's demeanour towards defence witness Olckers. The gall of it! What a sickening prat.

The testimony must be riveting. Nothing from either reporter for 15 minutes.

Oh dear, this is so dull. :( I shall be glad when we move on but it looks as though Olckers is going to be back tomorrow from what she says.

Dull at the moment IB, but just think of that long-awaited moment when HvB is found guilty and is led out to begin his sentence ...

Olckers uses the analogy that if the blood is drawn too late? it will give a result, but an incorrect one. But where/when did Otto or her lab do this? What's her evidence?

Olckers says data may have been valid but the interpretation/conclusion is incorrect. Galloway says if it differs from her interpretation?

Reference to a droplet of blood found on the laundry door (swab 63) not analyzed, it did not contain DNA (animal blood?)

DNA analysis processing: Galloway questioning the witness about this and the proficiency of FSL's - a complex matter indeed.

Swab 63 - droplet on laundry door - brought up. Not analysed as it didnt contain DNA. Could be animal blood.

Adjourned to 9:30 tomorrow.

What amazes me is that you would think scientific forensic evidence would make it a shoo-in to convict someone so obviously guilty as HvB. And yet somehow the defence manage to pick apart what should be rock solid evidence.

How on earth did courts ever manage to convict any murderers before DNA evidence ... :dunno:

Oh, and thank you so much JJ and Prime for posting all the tweets. :tyou: :yourock:

I think good old detective work was much valued at one point but I suspect a lot of mistakes were made. In a case such as this I am sure HvB would have been charged and found guilty in the first year using good 'old fashioned' methods. It is so blinking obvious, even to a clown like me, that he is guilty. However, DNA has made it possible to apprehend felons who leave no other trace. These days it seems one can possibly get off on a technicality. I hope this does not happen here.
