GREEK authorities are to reopen the case into missing Brit Ben Needham for the first time in 20 years, it emerged yesterday.

Blond Ben was just 21 months old when he disappeared on the holiday island of Kos in 1991.

His mother Kerry Grist is just back from meetings with investigators in Kos. They have promised her a fresh look an the inquiry.

A senior prosecutor told her they would leave "no stone unturned".

Kerry, from Sheffield, said: "I feel at last that someone is going to help me. I went home from Greece for the first time feeling that Ben is not forgotten.

Following her legal victory, his DNA will be taken from a sample of blood given during a routine test performed on babies shortly after their birth to test for cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disorder.

The High Court ruling is believed to be the first time a court has allowed the extraction of an adult’s genetic material without their permission when there is no reason to believe they are dead.

Ben Needham Christmas Appeal:-

Ben has been missing for 20 years. He was snatched as a toddler in Greece. Mum Kerry is trying to reach 10,000 followers on Twitter by Christmas in her effort to get this message out to as many people as possible.

Recently, she won the right to have Ben's DNA profiled and placed on record so that it can be used in comparisons. This is a massive breakthrough in Kerry's search for her son.

Now she needs your help to raise public awareness and hopefully catch the eye of a young man who doesn't know he is Ben Needham.

These are the questions Kerry is hoping thhis young man might read:-

- Are you aged between 17 and 25 or don’t know your age?

- Do you not have a birth certificate and / or a Passport?

- Do you have a birthmark above your right knee similar to the picture on the right?

- Do you not know which hospital you were born in?

- Does your background not seem to add up in some way?

- Are you uncertain about part of your upbringing?

- Do photos of yourself when you were a child look similar to the one on the right?

Please visit Ben's Official website:-

Please help Kerry Needham achieve her goal of 10,000 follower by Christmas. This is one cause which costs nothing but whose potential rewards are priceless.

Here's an interesting book by a well-known British author, Robert Barnard.
It seems to have been loosely based on the disappearance of Ben Needham.

A Stranger in the Family

Now that the couple who raised him are dead, Kit seeks answers about his past from his biological parents, and learns that his adoption stemmed from his kidnapping at age three during a Novello family holiday in Trepalu, Sicily, in 1989. His birth mother discourages him from digging into why he was abducted, while his dying birth father won't even acknowledge Kit

I hope 2012 is the year Ben Needham is reunited with his mother. :(

So heartbreaking.

Ben Needham's mother dismisses report he was buried

The mother of a boy who went missing in Greece 21 years ago has dismissed a report that the toddler died at the time in a building site accident.

Ben Needham, of Sheffield, went missing during a family visit to the island of Kos in 1991 when he was 21 months old.

A Daily Mirror report says Greek police believe he may have been buried under rubble near his family's farmhouse.

Kerry Needham said: "I was horrified when I saw that. I know my son is alive and well and out there somewhere."

They should go for it!

Dig out the rubble and prove he is/is not there. This will renew interest in the case. That is good!

That would be a very small task to do, and I can't believe it hasn't been done already.

Yes, apparently Ben's uncle was watching him, and I seem to remember he was a young man (late teens/early 20s?). There were some rumors floating around that he accidently killed Ben when riding his dirt bike and buried Ben on the island, which is why I said it is possible that Ben never left the island. I like to think Ben is a live and well and happy, completely unaware he is missing toddler Ben Needham.

I remember this too, I’ve always thought that was more likely than him being taken to order.
If he was taken/adopted to order does anyone know if the family remember anyone watching the family or anything that at the time seem out of the norm in the days leading up to him vanishing.

I am so pleased they are contemplating digging up this mound at last. I hope they do a proper job with the geophys and don't just write it off without trying. Makes me wonder whether they should just go for it and dig, save the geophys money and spend it on plant and labour. Will Kerry be able to accept it if the mound is untouched because they say they can't find anything there?

the bloody daily mail have been reporting for six months that the british police would be doing this, why has it taken so long?

i guess if they think his body is down there a few months wont make any difference

Does anybody have a map to show the dig in proximity to the farmhouse the family had and the road to it etc ?

POLICE have vowed to continue supporting the family of Sheffield toddler Ben Needham, who vanished on Kos 21 years ago, after a new search on the Greek holiday isle failed to solve the mystery of his disappearance.

-------------------------

One of the theories police wanted to explore was the possibility he may have been accidentally buried by a digger moving earth and rubble in the field next to where the toddler was last seen.

A team of 20 specialist police officers travelled to Kos to excavate the field, but failed to find anything to suggest that Ben had died.

AMBER Alert Europe Launches EU Wide Child Rescue Alert Platform

The AMBER Alert Europe Initiative (http://www.amberalert.eu) today launched the first EU wide child rescue alert platform: AMBER Alert Europe. In the US similar systems, joined in the AMBER Alert Plan, already have saved the lives of more than 600 children.

[snip]

"The system honors children that went missing in the EU - such as Madeleine McCann, Alessia and Livia Schepp, Jeremi Vargas and Ben Needham," adds Hoen. "The next time a child goes missing like they did, a picture of that child should instantly be seen by everyone in the area: citizens, media, law enforcement officials and border authorities across Europe. And when a child is abducted close to a border: those just across the border should also be alerted; with the possibility to widen the search with one push of a button."
