Does anyone know why Stephany's last name is Ramirez? Is that a Spanish custom or has she been married? I know that supposedly she was a lesbian, but I have not heard any confirmation of that. I heard her x girl friend say that she was struggling with her sexuality. tia

this was something that troubled me from the get go -- when you gamble and lose big (comps are there for you) -- there was plenty to eat at the casino

" was pleasantly suprised while playing video poker at the Atlantic City casino in Miraflores when they came around with a dinner cart! The meals were very good, and we returned every night to get our free meal "

Drinks are usually free too. At least they are here in the U.S.
 
I wonder if his mother wants to use the insane defense. He is not insane, he is a pathological lair, narcissist, bipolar and who knows what else. I heard a prosecutor explain it in these term "mental illness does not equal insanity." His parents should have realized there was something not right with him when Natalee disappeared and all the lies he told, and no emotion at all.

When they check his computer they will probably find an excel spreadsheet showing his exit excuses and escape plans - I concur with you -- this is just another elaborate plan and using others as alibis etc -- he knew danged fine that he was extorting $ from NH case - when he agreed (to his mother at least) that he would enter care. It may be also someone in Aruba tipped her off that she better lock him up for his own good too (MOO)

I saw them on the 20/20 special also. However there seemed to be some question about their existence since part of a weight room was shown on Jean Casares' video. I also thought it was kind of funny that the Colombian is sharing his tv with Joran. :D

Then people here are concluding that Joran did not run out of money, and/or that he could definitely have gotten free food at that particualr Lima casino?

What if he ran out of money to play, at that point? Even IF some food had been free up till then, would that have not changed if he could no longer bet?
 
I honestly think that JVDS was more interested in getting his hands on Stephany's winnings than the thought of food......he had a one track mind......CASH AND MORE CASH in his pockets.

But this may blow you away. There are physicians--some even have dual certifications in psychiatry and allergy--that report severe food reactions causing what used to be called multiple personality disorder. And then remarkably--and probably due to the interaction of the immune and nervous sytems--the different personalities had different allergies to different foods!

I note again how Joran's friend stated Joran wasn't eating much due to running out of money. So not only did he not have money to fly out of there, he may not have had money to eat at the time he killed poor Stephany. Again not an excuse, but there are illnesses that cause derangement when caloric intake gets low.

He had no excuse not to get food at the casino (it's free for gamblers while they are there) -- evidence he was schmoozing buddy

LOL at the Excel spreadsheet ~ but you might not be too far off. I'd imagine there are a lot of things on the computer LE will find he tried to delete. MOO

More than 99% chance that they would have fed him anyway (he had been there frequently -- casinos have 'loyalty' cards that players use to rack up points, cash back and free comps - including percs such as accommodation)

And now that you expounded on TES, OK. I know a little about the Holloway matter and Miller. I have explained that I have only recently gotten in-depth into JVDS matter. But did read more on Holloway years ago. And have read much (and written some) on JonBenet, and then there is the vastly deeper level that the last is certainly involved in.

So I was referring more to the Ramsey matter when I used the c word.

OK. I'm still confused. I don't even understand the first part, where you talk about conspiracy "that often is involved in such matters." How so? Do you mean a criminal conspiracy involving the killer and accomplices? When you say "local level," do you mean local people, who live in the area of the crime? Are you talking about law enforcement? Who or what?

And I take exception to any attempt to drag the Ramsey matter into Natalee Holloway's disappearance and presumed murder. No member of Natalee's family knew the Ramsays when Natalee disappeared in Aruba. That Beth Holloway has subsequently met and started dating John Ramsay has nothing to do with this case. I won't even comment about Tim Miller, whose contribution has been to assist in a search that only the family and friends of Natalee Holloway approached with any intensity. The only conspiracy involving Natalee's case involves her murder, the hiding and disposal of her body, and the foot-dragging of Aruban LE, who from the very first moments wanted to just sit and wait to see if she turned up. What Joran and his mother, in her cocoon of denial and fingerpointing, concoct to explain poor Joran is just another layer of lies and cover-up.

The story is much in the news in Holland, frankly some are getting sick of it and want real news. The comments are just as ferocious as here. They do not want him back and sit in a cushy jail at Dutch taxpayer expense. Peru is more than welcome to Joran.

Since Joran is originally from Arnhem in the province of Gelderland, this link is also a good source on Joran. Local news tends to give more detail than National.

As to the name Netherlands(Nederland) it just means low lands since most of it is below sea level.
BTW, I do live in the USA now for many years. Was born in Rotterdam and lived there first 23 years on my life.
