Thanks Venom Goose. This is not looking good.

Perhaps the explanation of how a vehicle of that size was completely destroyed by flame lies in the fact that there are flammable items associated with a motorhome (in addition to the fuel tanks, of course). I'm certainly no expert, so that is just a guess on my part.

When looking for any previous incidents of a Gulf Stream Sun Voyager catching on fire I came across this:

As far as the extent of the damage to the RV before the fire was extinguished, I would presume that the two main contributing factors were, 1) it took a while for the fire to be noticed (remote area), and, 2) it would have taken a while for the fire trucks to reach the area from Edson.

Generally a motor home/RV/camper burns completely once it gets started. Those things are very flammable.

When I first heard about this missing elderly couple I thought back about the case of Allen & Margaret Berrington - they went missing here in Alberta a month ago...

A sad & still mysterious ending to their story IMO and i can't help but wonder if there's someone out there preying on the elderly...(their case has been closed, but very strange circumstances at least imo)

Hoping for a positive outcome in the case of Lyle & Marie.

I seem to remember a similar case out of the Buffalo NY area a few years back, but I can't find it.

Didn't ANYONE see this huge RV burning on July 3rd,4th,5th?????? It would have been a huge smoke plume, wouldn't it?

Not many people must travel the road it was located on, that is for sure. But you would think someone would have seen the smoke, wouldn't you?

Perhaps it was burned at night, making the smoke more difficult to see. Surely it would have been black smoke during the day, and would have been seen. I wonder if an accelerant was used?

There must not have been anything around the RV, or that would have caught fire too, wouldn't it?

In this picture, there is a propane tank (behind the kennel), and something that looks like a table top BBQ. If the RV somehow caught fire, I'm guessing that gas propane will explode and serve as an accelerant, right? But wouldn't that make a big "boom" sound?
Did the campers reported hearing an explosion? July 5th was Monday, and I'm wondering if most campers have left the campground by then :waitasec:

Breaks my heart looking at this picture :( Mr. & Mrs. McCann look like such a nice loving couple. Cannot imagine anyone wanting to hurt them. I pray they are stuck somewhere in their SUV, close to a river/lake were they could have access to water.

How horrible for the family of this elderly couple. :( I have a big soft spot in my heart, especially for children and the elderly.

I'm wondering if, when this couple stopped to fill the motorhome with fuel, if someone may have possibly jumped inside the motorhome and hid. Like other folks here, I find it strange that they ended up not far from where they began their trek.

I do hope that they are found safe and sound.

I do hope that Lyle and Marie McCann are found safe and brought home to their loving family. My heart goes out to them all.

Here is a link to the local paper in Prince George-The Prince George Citizen

Clues to the fate of Marie Ann McCann, 77, and her husband Kyle Thomas McCann, 78, whose burned motorhome was found on July 5 in a remote forested area west of Edmonton, could lie in the hands of a couple who stopped by the front desk of the downtown Prince George RCMP detachment on Tuesday.
At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, the couple turned in valuable information about a light green Hyundai Tucson SUV bearing the Alberta licence plate ZPK-289, which the McCanns were towing behind their motorhome

I wonder if LE did not get information on who this couple is, since they are requesting the couple to come forward again????? Who is heading north in the McCann's Hyundai Tucson? This seems to be good news today, it offers some hope.

At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, the couple turned in valuable information about a light green Hyundai Tucson SUV bearing the Alberta licence plate ZPK-289, which the McCanns were towing behind their motorhome.

RCMP would like that couple to contact them again.

Anybody with information on the vehicle is asked to call Cst. Cruz at 250-561-3300 or the serious crimes unit at 250-561-3365

LE seems to know that it's a local couple, but are a little less sure of the veracity of the sighting of the McCann's vehicle, according to this news outlet, *sigh*. So, are they still looking for the "local couple"?

The Prince George RCMP detachment confirmed Wednesday that a local couple claimed to have seen a light-green Hyundai Tucson SUV driving around the area.

"We took a number of questions and asked them, but new information has now come to light and we would like very much to speak to this couple again but we've been unable to reach them at this point in time."

As of Thursday morning, that tip about the SUV has still not been verified.

100% pure specualtion on my part, but I just have to toss it out there....

Did the McCann's themselves report the car (in some sort of attempt to let the family know they were okay?).

I realize that there are many other ways to do let their family know they are okay, but, just tossing the thought out there. It's kind of odd that the couple reported the vehicle, and now LE can't find them, if you KWIM?

Sorry for the multiple posts, but there are not many posters on this board, trying to generate a bit of discussion....

I am wondering exactly WHY the campground people banged on the door to the RV, as per quote below.

I also think it would be very bold for "thiefs" or "abductors" to steal these vehicles, presumably on July 3rd (assuming that the McCann's did not get very far), and hang out at a campground for 2 days.

Something is just not as it seems in this case, and it makes me hopeful that the McCann's are still alive.

Quote:

But the manager of the campground told CBC News both the SUV and the motorhome were in the campground earlier on the day the RV was found burned.

No one was seen around the vehicles, and when an employee banged on the door, no one answered, he said.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Patrick Webb confirmed this information Wednesday night.
"Exactly how this fits into the whole situation is still to be determined, but we can confirm [both vehicles] were there, actually both of them, on the morning of the fifth," Webb said

And why on earth didn't LE take their name. First the screw-up when they didn't follow through on burned RV and now this.

One point on the timeline that has occured to me.

Don't assume that just because the RV was found quite close to the McCann's starting point, that the McCann's did not make it way further west, upon which time prior to July 5th, the perpetrator(s) headed BACK the other direction to end up at Minnow Lake.

There is not necessarily a direct line from St.Albert to Minnow Lake.

Exactly, someone could have intercepted them at any time.
So car was with RV at campground.
No one around.
then RV burns
car gone
no word from the couple

I'm not getting a good vibe about this, I think harm has come to them.

Makes one think the couple might have given a made up name, or somebody else's address, or a bad phone number.

It sounds as if LE has some very detailed information, according to this article. That is good news.

Some of the tips are very detailed, and they have apparently very good information. Those are the priorities to follow up on. However, a tip that comes in that simple says, 'I saw a light green SUV at a particular location,' although the content may not be there, it may be the telling factor."
