I think if they could they would call someone.
So a possible accident, but with RV burnt,
and no sightings,
I feel worried.

Me too. The son said his father has a cellphone, but that he usually keeps it off and mostly uses it to make calls. I'm hoping the reason they are not phoning anyone is because the cellphone was inside the RV.
Not sure if I got the timeline wrong, but if they left on the 3rd. and the RCMP received notice of the RV burning on the 5th, what happened during those 2 days? Very unusual to make that detour to the lake when they had just started their trip. Also hearing the son speaking in the past tense is not a good sign :(

. A witness from the campground confirms an RV was found on a dead-end road and it had been burned to the ground.
And while the torched

RV was found on July 5th,
the couple was not officially reported missing until July 10th.

RCMP say an Edson RCMP officer came across the burning RV and was able to pull information from the registration card. The officer attempted to to call the registered owner of the RV, but that was unsuccessful.

At that point, the file was then passed along to the St. Albert police detachment. Police would not say if the St. Albert detachment followed up on the case.

After finding the burned RV, police called the couple's home repeatedly and officers knocked on the door of their home, but they couldn't find them, he said.

It wasn't until the missing person's report came in several days later that police connected the RV to the couple's disappearance. What made the case even more suspicious was that the SUV, Alberta plate ZPK 289, was gone.

Seems like some confusion at first.

Mounties launch belated search for missing Alberta couple

Faced with the mysterious disappearance of an elderly couple who haven’t spoken to family, made a cell phone call or used a bank card in more than a week, RCMP have intensified a search one critic says should have started five days earlier.

Five days earlier, RCMP had been called to the scene after a passerby found the couple’s burning motor home 900 kilometres away in Edson, Alta., but did not notify the family. Only on Saturday, after the couple was reported missing, did RCMP return to the scene of the fire to begin a full-scale investigation.

They’re now searching for witnesses who might have seen the couple or their Hyundai SUV. But one expert said the RCMP should have acted sooner, saying evidence has long since been lost at the scene of the fire.

“It’s either lazy investigation, dumb investigation, or a combination of both, but they dropped the ball,” said Bill Pitt, a former RCMP officer who teaches criminology at Edmonton’s Grant MacEwan University. “Five precious days have been lost. The dots were aligned early, they should have been connected early, and they weren’t. I fear the worst on this one.”

“Was there some fault? Maybe there was, maybe there wasn’t. We don’t know until we look at it. There is time here from the fifth [of July] to the 10th when maybe – and I’m only saying maybe – if things were done differently, maybe we could have done better,” Sgt. Webb said. “Nobody is perfect.”

Son pleads for information on missing Alberta couple

A worried son blinked back tears Tuesday as he pleaded for help finding his aging parents, Marie and Lyle McCann of St. Albert.

This is so heartbreaking; it was hard to watch the News Conference, specially after the reporter asks Bret "if you could say something to your parents, what would you say?" :(

Thanks for the video clips, Hazel. In the second clip you can tell that the daughter is still trying to get her head around the whole situation and is still in a state of disbelief. It's easy to see why. A very scary situation indeed. ;(

From what I can see here at the link below, Edson, AB is more of a mid-way point between Edmonton and Jasper Provincial Park. It is a stopping point for gas etc., for those going through. Many in the town would be very local people, with a large portion of travellers stopping along the highway. There is a virtual tour of the city, and alot of information on it.

Jasper Park itself is over 10,000 Square Kilometers. You have to pay at the park gates to get in, so, if their vehicle went through the main gates, they may have video/record of that.

But locals may know of other routes into the park, bypassing the fees.

Let's hope they are found safe and sound but it
does not really look good.

Does anyone know if their cell phone was actually burned in the RV?

Can't LE (Law Enforcement) obtain PINGS on their phone, even if it is OFF?

I heard on CBC Radio this morning that LE is looking at this as a criminal investigation.

WHERE is their car?????

The more this case is publicized, the greater chances they have of finding that car.

Are there any residential homes on the road that their RV was found? Are there any locals to the area that know if that Lake/Road was used by many?

I haven't heard if cell was burned. I thought I read that cell was being looked into.

I hope they are okay.

Bret McCann, the couple's eldest son, said his parents are responsible travellers who loved the open road. He said the family is shocked by their disappearance and the fire but are hoping for the best.

He said he believes his parents, who have lived in St. Albert since 1964, were headed to Blue River, B.C. on the first day of their trip.

Webb said it is not unusual for RCMP officers to come across burned-out vehicles and the motorhome did not initially overly concern police.

“It is a crime, but it was not that serious a crime because it was a property crime, not a person crime,” he said. “In a perfect world those steps would have been taken right away, but we just can't do that with every burned vehicle, I myself have probably done a dozen of these over my career.”

He said Edson RCMP did contact the St. Albert detachment to try and contact the registered owners of the motorhome. The force is now doing a complete review to try and determine exactly what took place.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Albert RCMP at 780 458-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Elderly Alberta couple missing under suspicious circumstances. They headed out from their home in St Albert, Alberta on July 3. Their burning RV was found July 5, in a campground west of Edmonton Alberta and the SUV they were towing is missing. Family members reported them missing, when they didn't show up in Abbotsford BC on July 10 as planned.

The RCMP has asked for the public's assistance in finding them.

Alberta couple's disappearance devastates family
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/s...ng-st-albert-mccann-couple-family-speaks.html

Bolded by Me Above: The SUV they were TOWING is missing. I wonder if there is any indication of tampering on the burned out RV, to show the vehicle being disconnected in an unusual manner (eg. by someone who didn't know how). Is there a locking mechanism on the tow rig? I would imagine there would be, since you wouldn't want just anyone to be able to unhook it and take it. Is a key required? Did LE find the key? Did the McCann's gas the SUV AND the RV in St.Albert before they left?
