That is so true. It really grates on me when people go on and on about how beautiful RS was - she may well have been, but that should have zero bearing on how heinous a crime killing her was. It is part of the reason I'm finding Behind the Door such an excruciating read - Bateman and Weiner seem to be totally unreconstructed when it comes to gender politics, and the way they talk about her tips over into voyeurism IMO.

I'm still refusing to buy a copy of Behind the Door, just based on the opninions and views of it shared on this board.... Is it really that dreadful (I will probably eventually give in and buy it just for completeness, but I won't get my hopes up that it might be an interesting read that way!)
 
Another interesting snippet in relation to OP's bail application (from 10 April x). Nel asks when the bail application was being made, did OP try to make contact with his father about the 38 ammo? No, he didn't. Nel asks if anyone else did?

OP: no milady...
Nel: why not? Why would you not know if anybody did?
OP: Milady, for weeks after (I got bail) I slept...I didn't see anyone...I stayed in my room...I didn't socialise ...so I wouldn't know if anyone did or didn't... on occasions when I had to speak to my lawyer I would speak to him...I did not have much communication, I didn't even have my phone, the State had my phones, Milady...
Nel: are you done?
OP: yes

Nel must have been seething inside at this point, knowing he couldn't say WE DIDN'T HAVE YOUR PHONE - CARL DID, I PUT IT TO YOU, MR PISTORIUS, THAT YOU ARE LYING!!!

I haven't got very far. But it's lines like " her black- and- white Virgin Active kitbag, a black bra peeking out from the unzipped opening.....Her black vest has been pulled up to below her chest and a white ECG electrode pad peeks through on her right breast...." The language is creepy and voyeuristic. Just about every woman who features in the book has to be described in terms of her attractiveness (and if she's not so described then presumably it's because the author considers her unattractive). It's sending my misogyny barometer into meltdown...but I will persevere.

Am I missing something? Why couldn't Nel have said the State didn't have OP's phone if they didn't have it? Makes no sense the State couldn't have said exactly that if it were true they didn't have his phone and it makes no sense OP would say it if he knew the State didn't have it since they could pick him up on it. Nope, no sense at all, unless I've missed something.

We know for a fact that, for the first couple of weeks, the State did NOT have OP's phone. His brother did.

Doesn't matter why Nel didn't point this out - perhaps in the midst of a heavy cross it didn't occur to him right at that moment.

But the fact remains that the killer was, yet again, being at best disingenuous, at worst deliberately deceitful.
 
If it was Henke's ammo, why did he refuse to sign an affidavit admitting it belonged to him?

Despite Pistorius's father's refusal to sign an affidavit admitting the ammunition was his, and the lack of evidence to corroborate the claim, Masipa finds that the state has failed to prove that Pistorius had the neccessary 'animus' (intent) in his possession of the ammunition.

I don't know why I thought Henke had admitted the ammo was his at the eleventh hour? Does anyone remember that? If he did, I would imagine the rest of the family and the DT may have put incredible pressure on him, saying that if he didn't, it would be his fault if OP went to jail (this is a family who likes to blame others). If he didn't admit it, then he clearly didn't want to put his signature to a document he knew contained false information. Either way, it was pretty clear to everyone except Masipa, that the ammo belonged to OP for the new gun he had on order. It's ludicrous to imagine that a father who had barely any contact with his son, would suddenly ask if he could store some ammo in his safe!

Yes, I remember it well. Several papers carried the story.
 
Going back a bit, reading all your comments about the use of the term "if" and so on is really interesting. And I agree.

No one - absolutely no one - would use the word "if" when describing events that actually happened. "If" relates to a hypothetical scenario. OP more than once said something to the effect of, "If I'd run out on to the balcony....". In other words, he could have done but didn't. Thus...he's lying.

There's mutiple examples of this kind of thing throughout his testimony.

The most glaringly obvious one to me was the issue of the length of the fan cords. Nel pointed out that the fan cord was not long enough to reach the plug. If OP were telling the truth he'd have said, "It must be long enough because I know for a fact that it was plugged in where I said it was". Did he? Nope. He said, "Well, I can't comment on that because I don't know how long the cord is".

These things are really solid pointers to his lies. Hard to miss, and hard to explain innocently.

Pedantically, OP is correct. He is referring to 'after the bail' and talking about 'for weeks'. Roux said the Defence had the phone on 19 Feb and they handed it over to the State on 25 Feb.

Yes I do remember it well. Several headlines but interestingly nothing is coming up on searches. Have they been removed? I think it was only a few days before the case started.

Nel does say during the trial that Henke admitted it was his but refused to put it in writing. The link is to the Skyblog at the time and you will see this is reported. It is quite interesting to read Nel's questioning and OP's responses once again.

And I have been wondering if he locked Reeva out of the bedroom when she went downstairs for a snack. Was she trying to get him to open the door, so that she could collect her stuff and leave? Is that why only her voice was heard?

I don't remember that. I have been travelling a lot this year so must have missed it.

Does anyone have a link? If Henke said it was his, did the court know? Is that why Masipa decided OP was innocent of this charge? In any case, i still think OP was guilty and he should have been found so.

Nel gave no indication that the iPad 2 belonged to Reeva, so I think that both iPads seized by the State may have belonged to OP. It's frustrating because the content of Reeva's iPad has to be crucial, given OP's evidence that he feel asleep while she was still awake, sitting up in bed.

What on earth would she have been doing, if not on a device?

For that you have to believe his account of them going to bed early, him being asleep and her sitting up still awake. I don't.
