2008.08.21 Shirley P (Cindy's mom) Interview

I would think it would be more embarassing for an ex-LE to admit falling for a scam than to have a gambling problem. Maybe it was a little of both?

Perhaps...but falling for a "scam" makes one look like a victim....gambling it away when you have a wife supporting the family, including your daughter and granddaughter, makes the others look like victims. But, IMO, anyone falling for a Nigerian scam has to be looking for a get rich quick scheme and pretty gullible...George doesn't strike me as gullible.

While I agree with you, this is not all lollipops and Disneyland. It is LIFE and sometimes life is messy. I understand she did not ask for this. But it is what it is and this is her chance. She can make a difference. She can help put away the 'evil' that has caused this tragedy.

She, to me, is TEAM CAYLEE.

And maybe with Shirley, Caylee will finally have someone in the courtroom who is there for her. I hope Rick too will be in the courtroom daily for Caylee.

TIDBITS OF QUOTES FROM SP I LIKE:

I have a cat? ....I thought I was going to blow away awhile ago......Do you smell burnt wires? Something, Oh god anyway......Okay, get me back on track.......Casey, I don't want you up here........My stupid son.......You know what I'm talking about...

This woman is adorable, completely unlike her female offspring for sure. I'm not convinced CA's mental issues has anything to do with her childhood. The only thing that bothers me is that she seems to elude to the 'accident' and then play 'dumb'. This is a woman that is far from dumb. I don't like that she may have mispoke and then tried to deny. Accident?

But you know what struck me? Everyone is 'poor GA, poor GA...." But basically here's GA practically stealing from his own family (his retirement) not unlike his daughter & hiding it.

If the brother did state how dysfunctional they were, he was right!

And CA posting "where is MY Caylee"?? MY Caylee is missing. WTH? CA really thought this was her own daughter, not her granddaughter. No matter what we all think of Casey, CA seemed to even convince her own mom that SHE needed control of Caylee. This is how I keep thinking CA is hugely to blame and pushed her psycho daughter to do this.

How sad that the grandmother bawls her head off at night - 1/2 for Caylee and 1/2 for her daughter Cindy. No tears left for Casey speaks louder than any other words I'll ever hear.

Excellent post!

Presumably, any figure quoted as to how much money Casey had stolen from her parents would have come (at least originally) from Cindy.

I do not believe Cindy had $45,000 sitting around in cash for Casey to steal. So then we would be talking about credit cards and bank accounts. Now, even for an experienced shopper like myself, it would take more than a month to purchase $45,000 worth of merchandise at Target.

So that leads to Cindy knowing she was being stolen from and taking no action to stop the thievery? (You either close the account outright or you report the card as stolen and they assign a new account number and send you a new card. Problem solved.)

Something isn't "adding up" regarding the figures being bandied about.

Cindy most certainly did not have 45 grand in an account for Casey to pilfer. Cin said she was thinking about bailing on the house and getting an apartment to take care of Caylee so she was tapped out. That 45 grand figure must have been from various credit cards?

This is simple, but for most of us, it's impossible to comprehend. IF we have had any kind of affection and love from parents, a parent, a caregiver, then we feel gratitude and love for those people and we honor them with respectful actions as adults.
Since we aren't usually narcissistic sociopaths, we can't understand how Casey coudl do most of the things she did or how her parents seemingly " overlooked" them.

Let's look at this with Shirley's words in mind- Did Casey hate Cindy more than she loved Caylee? OBVIOUSLY, but Caylee was also Casey's pawn, the Ace in the hole for Casey for almost 3 years.
IF Casey could have delayed Caylee's speech or made her deaf or mute, then she might have used her trump card successfully for a few more years. Caylee was disposed of when she stopped being a compliant pawn, starting to cry over situations that were unpleasant to a child, to talk, etc.

How Casey got away with sleeping around, stealing, not working, lying about every day, drugging, drinking- it's hard to imagine, yet so simple once Caylee entered the world and was placed in CINDY'S arms.
Remember the early statement from Casey to Cindy about how Cindy held Caylee first?
This set the stage for the entire life of Caylee Marie Anthony.
Cindy transferred the love and protective feelings she had for Casey at one time in their lives onto liittle precious, innocent Caylee. Caylee was Cindy and George's chance to " get it right" with a child, albeit a granddaughter.

Casey isn't stupid, not when it comes to using what works.
What worked was threatening to take Caylee away from the Anthony household if George and Cindy didn't give into whatever Casey wanted, whatever it was. They weren't to question, or berate, or even LOOK at Casey closely, not if they wanted Caylee in their lives.
Casey stole, lied, slept around, took drugs, drank, possibly had photos on the Internet that were pornographic in nature, lied about working for at least 2 years, lied about a babysitter for at least 2 years, and from the looks of things, the Anthonys believed the lies. OR did they?
It doesn't matter what they believed about Casey's life, what they KNEW was that Caylee was the precious family member, and they would not risk having her taken out of their lives to who knows where with who knows whom with Casey.

I am absolutely, positively certain that Casey kept bags packed and keys ready to roll in that house. All she had to do was pick up Caylee and say " OK, you don't believe me or support me, WE are gone. She's mine and I'm taking her".

When that happened, the Anthonys relented because the benefits of having Caylee in their lives, and them in hers, outweighed the " problem child" that Casey had become. And there are probably short instances of fighting between parents and Casey where Casey DID leave with Caylee prior to the day she was murdered. As soon as they gave in, Casey returned with THEIR Caylee.

Casey knows how to use people to get what she wants, and she used Caylee every day of the child's life once a bond formed between grandparents and baby.

The extreme anger Casey must have felt when she left after her big fight with Cindy must have been building for so long. As well as resentment that a little snot nosed brat could get the love from her parents that she couldn't any longer. Casey traded in things and appearances. Not love. She didn't understand true love, obviously.

My favorite SP snippit from the interview was when she called Padilla, the cowboy .. :D

I agree with your theory.

Bold is mine-

I don't know, just that bolded part shows me he is pretty gullible.

I doubt it, she is not a good criminal. She is a lousy liar, can't even cover them half-way decently. Look at those "work emails" (fake) or how about signing her own name to one of Amy's checks? so many stupid little mistakes add up.. she isn't very bright, she'd have been caught long before now) She could be on that stupid criminals show they have on TruTV. IMO the only reason she got away with this so long is because her parents believed her crap for so long. "I'll bring her over tomorrow so you can see her, mom".. and Cindy would wait and wait. Next day, same thing...

Okay, she's stupid. I agree with that. But I think she's as good a criminal as any. It's strange how such people can be stupid, but also cunning. She also knew enough to prey only on those persons connected to her--persons who, IMO, she thought were her very own suckers. These were people whom she probably felt she could talk out of going to the police. Her parents... oh, brother! Her grandparents? No worries--her parents would stand between her and any trouble there! Amy...? I can't help but wonder, if Caylee's murder had never happened, would Amy have promptly brought charges, and seen a prosecution all the way through? I can't help but think that in those circumstances, Casey (with her enablers, the parents) would have somehow bought Amy off, and once again she'd have escaped prosecution.

What a typical career she'd have had, as a petty thief, if she hadn't overextended herself with that murder (my opinion only). Of course, in her mind, the crime of murder probably isn't that much different. "When this is over, I have so much to tell you." Heh.

wives open account in thier husbands name all the time or at least it used to be that way " joint accounts". Not so odd really but hiding it is bad.

You have to have the other person present though, no?

George told the family all along that he lost the money gambling. It was being scammed out of the money that he didn't want to admit to.

I don't think the $45,000 figure has been confirmed. Shirley heard that figure but not from Cindy. Likely it came from Nancy Grace, same place we all heard it.
I'm not so sure she'd then repeat it. It was obvious (at least to me) that she knew the kinda garbage that was being spewed on tv. I think her daughter spoke often about it with her. I can see SP asking her all kinds of questions every time she watched NG. IMO, SP had been talked to. She had gotten CA's version of events and though she had formed her own "rational" interpretation of events as far as Casey was concerned, she didn't want to buy into any of the other craziness. She hated thinking her son had called the family dysfunctional. She herself didn't want to look any further than Casey being responsible for the family's troubles...with the exception of George, but even then she qualified it with his being "a nice guy". There's a lot of "mother" at work when it comes to SP. G-d bless her.

I had never heard before that Cindy told Yuri Melich that Casey needed to be in jail. Did I miss that?

And what is that about Casey's money being in a locker at the Hard Rock Hotel?

"Cindy acted like she didn't know (Casey was pregnant). But being a nurse I don't know how the heck she couldn't notice." Love Shirley!
But, SP was there as well and when questioned by LE admitted to not knowing...but I guess if you're a nurse it makes all the difference. IMO. LE caught SP a couple of times.

I know!!! That made me uneasy too!! Why lie about that, if Cindy really showed her then she knows what was said! I can't figure why they would lie to her like that.
I think we might have missed something. LOL

Such a sweet ole lady, and LE was so sweet to her. You could tell that they liked her. What a difference tween Shirley and CA.

It's amazing the difference between Cindy and her mother. Shirley is a very sweet lady, who speaks from a logical view point. She's got common sense.

I was impressed with her stating that the first time Casey stole a check from her purse, she forgave her and told her not to do it again. When it happened again, about 7 months later, she wanted Casey arrested. That was a very common sense approach. She gave Casey a second chance and when Casey blew it, she wanted Casey punished.

Okay, she's stupid. I agree with that. But I think she's as good a criminal as any. It's strange how such people can be stupid, but also cunning. Petty theif? 45000 dollars still trying to wrap my head around that. If my child stole 20 dollars from me that would be to much let alone 45000 dollars I just can't imagine. KC needed tough love amd the grandmother is right for not allowing her to come clean her house. I could never imagine stealing from my grandparents, shows what an utter disregard and lack of empathy kc had for people to steal from her own grandmother. How trashy it makes me sick! Cindy AND george should have been better parents and put a stop to her theivery she did it to them because she knew she could.

SP's interview did have it's funny moments, that's for sure. She must have been interviewed by LE after Hurricane Fay went through the Orlando area.

I'm a bit confused about the money issue. Is it supposed to be that Casey stole $45,000 dollars from CA or is it that the $45,000 debt is from both Casey and GA? I'm also confused as to what GA (according to SP) did with his retirement account that CA had to pay IRS taxes on?

If Casey did open credit cards in CA's name then I wonder if she used initials on the credit cards as both Casey and CA have the initials C. M. Anthony. So was Casey stealing CA's identity to open credit cards? I guess if that is the case then the info would be in another document dump sometime down the line?

I got a kick out of SP
here are a few things that made me chuckle:

Do you smell smoke?

Do I have a cat....

Just tell them the line is down in my backyard....and to be careful...
I wouldn't want them dead

Okay. Get me back on track :biglaugh:

Ma'am, can I use this chair?
Yeah
I'm sorry
Its kind of flimsy, but your not big :floorlaugh:
I should be able to sit in it
(laughs)
Yeah
Thank you for the compliment. I appreciate that
(laughing)
Yeah its an old chair. Uh anyway.....:D

That cow boy.....:bud:

Even though I think the detectives overall did a fine job, I must say I am not very impressed with their interviewing style. It's hard for the person they are talking with to complete a thought. They don't wait long enough for the person to answer. They interrupt constantly.

I learned something from the interview. George is retired. I wonder if he went out of the LE years ago on a disability retirement and/or he may have filed a worker's comp claim in the past five years on a recent employer because he got a huge settlement....most likely due to his knee replacement. I wonder if the money he received is tied in with the money kc scammed out of them and the $45,000 was part of his settlement. Perhaps he was giving kc money w/o Cindy being aware.
