GUILTY Australia - E. Fremantle, WA, AsianFem, in suitcase in river, Jul'16 - Annabelle Chen

‘A young woman who was jailed for helping her father cover up her mother's murder could gain access to a multi-million-dollar trust fund once she is released.

Annabel Chen was fatally bashed in her home by Ah Ping Ban, 69, and later stuffed into a suitcase that was dumped in Perth's Swan River in 2016.

Their daughter Tiffany Wan, 27, was sentenced to four years and ten months behind bars for being an accessory to the killing.

Despite her involvement in the crime, Wan could be set for a cash influx thanks for her mother's estate once she is released on parole - which could be as early as July.’

His lawyer Simon Watters presented several grounds of appeal, including that the timeline of events did not fit, claiming the evidence did not establish beyond reasonable doubt Ms Chen was killed after Ban arrived in Australia from Singapore.

Mr Watters also argued financial documents regarding Ms Chen's wealthy estate were not raised at trial, which showed Wan was her mother's beneficiary.

He further argued there was a miscarriage of justice because the trial judge failed to adequately direct the jury it was open to them to find both the accused not guilty.

The appeal decision will be handed down at a later date.
