Australia Australia - Julie-Anne Leahy, 26, & Vicki Arnold, 27, Atherton, Qld, 9 Aug 1991

Mr Leahy's application to have his legal costs reimbursed.

The coroner ordered Ms Leahy's husband Alan Leahy to stand trial.

Mr Leahy's lawyers applied to the Supreme Court to have the coroner's decision reviewed, arguing Mr Barnes exercised his powers improperly and erred in law.

Today Justice Jim Henry upheld that application, ruling the coroner had erred in his decision to commit Mr Leahy.

The parties will return to court at a later date to discuss Mr Leahy's application to have his legal costs reimbursed.

I hope this case finally makes it to court, no way he will evade justice this time. jmo

The unsolved case of two Queensland women shot dead more than 20 years ago is back in court after a fresh bid to bring the main suspect to trial.
However, Queensland's attorney-general, who is behind the push, faces a tough task to convince the state's Court of Appeal to overturn a previous decision.
The attorney-general is also seeking to overturn a ruling that the state pay Mr Leahy's legal costs.

The Attornery-General will not be able to appeal a decision that would have seen a man committed to stand trial over the death of his wife and her best friend in 1991.

Instead, Jarrod Bleijie has been told the Queensland government must pay 70 per cent of Alan Leahy’s legal costs, the Supreme Court of Brisbane has heard.

I grew up about 30-40 minutes away from the town that both ladies lived in. Was actually born two years after they were murdered.

I had never heard about this until my best friend told me about the book written on the case - Third Party to Murder: The Sequel, written by Robert Reid.

The book is such a great read for anybody interested in this case - it has photos of the crime scene and a number of ballistics tests regarding the sawed off shot-gun used in the murder. It also goes into depth of the discrepancies found during the investigations, for example, that bullet wounds were found in the back of one of the ladies, having gone through the back of the car seat - thus being shot from behind her.

It saddens me to know what Julie-Anne's husband is still free and I believe he is the one who murdered both. Motive 1. being that he was sleeping with one of Julie-Anne's younger siblings who lived with them, under their care.

24 years later and the case has been through over seven investigations. Justice needs to be served.
