GUILTY Australia - Kiesha Weippeart, 6, Mount Druitt, NSW, 18 July 2010 - #2

According to my source court starts tomorrow. I'm not 100% clear on if that is the Kristy Mcdougal case to start with. She says she's testifying in Oct- which I think is in relation to Kiesha's case.
The two cases are kinda joined because Kristy was found during the search for Kiesha.

Yes, I remember when Aboriginal elder Cheryl Anne Carroll stumbled over the body of single mother and drug dealer Kristi McDougall while searching for Kiesha at the Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside. According to Debbra Hogden, Mr. Best killed Kristi as payback when the two women went to his house to deliver crystal methylampetamine because McDougall told Mr Best's former partner that he was a drug user, which cost him access to his two children. Ms Hogden has been charged with being an accessory to murder claims she made an unsuccessful attempt to stop him from killing McDougall, and that he threatened her with a knife hidden inside a walking stick handle when a neighbour knocked on the door to enquire about the commotion in the midst of the alleged killing. This article which was posted over a year ago on August 20, 2010 said Hogden was granted conditional bail and Mr Best, who has been charged with murder, was taken to hospital with chest pains but was expected to face court the following day. Gruesome details about McDougall's murder are in the link below.

Is the Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside close to where Kiesha's remains were found?

A News source said the case against Kristi Abrahams and Robert Smith was adjourned until Friday, September 23 so further forensic material can be examined. Magistrate Mary Ryan said Ms Abrahams and Mr Smith will have to appear by audio video link on September 23 at Penrith Local Court.

When the trials start you will learn that Cheryl Anne Carroll was on the scene when police arrived to see the KM's torso, but she wasn't the one who found it. There was no psychic stuff involved for Cheryl....it was a phone call that got her to the scene.
This is the only way the two crimes are related- the person who really found KM had been searching for Kiesha, and this same person searched the area where kiesha was buried and contacted LE, very adamant that they search the area thoroughly.

The distance between the two locations is aprox 7 km's (4.3 miles)

The State Coroner's Office authorised the release of Kiesha's remains last Wednesday, September 14th and on Friday, Chris Weippeart and his mother met with the funeral arranger. The family has decided to hold a private funeral, followed by a public memorial a few days later and they have announced that the memorial service will be held in a church in Mt Druitt which will include all the things Kiesha loved in life.
Mr Weippeart said he has carefully chosen songs which his daughter liked, and that are meaningful to him and his family.

The dates for Kiesha’s private funeral service and public memorial service haven’t been released and because burial typically occurs three to seven days after death, depending on custom and more mundane matters, such as the availability of the funeral home, there is a strong possibility her family will hold their private service this week. On Friday, September 23, Kristi Abrahams and Robert Smith’s are scheduled to appear by video in court possibly to enter a plea.

In Christianity, a funeral is most commonly held three days after death, allowing two to three days for the wake or a day for viewing. In other religions, the length of time varies. In Judaism, the burial normally takes place the next day.

State law can dictate when a person will be buried. A body that has not been embalmed will usually begin to decompose after two to three days. So, state law often requires that burial take place within a few days of death.

That's today.....will be interesting to see what happens....and if they actually appear in court.

Although I suspect the Weippeart's will hold a private funeral service for Kiesha sometime this week, I haven't found anything in the media stating when her funeral or memorial service will actually take place yet.

I think it would be impossible to keep the day Kiesha is buried private but out of respect for the family, maybe the media won't release this information?

Now that most of Kiesha's remains have been retrieved and thoroughly examined for injuries, the State should be ready to proceed in this case and I hope the co-accused will enter a plea at their hearing on Friday.

A previous media report stated the focus of the police investigation will be on the mother, who raised red flags when she admitted she was the one who tucked Kiesha into bed "before the movie the family watched together ended" and was the one who discovered her daughter missing the following morning. http://au.news.yahoo.com/video/national/watch/25059045/

Unless something changed, Magistrate Mary Ryan permitted the pair to appear by audio video link.

Magistrate Mary Ryan said Ms Abrahams and Mr Smith will have to appear by audio video link on September 23 at Penrith Local Court.

Supporters of the six-year-old Kiesha gathered outside the court with posters and placards.

Led by Alison Anderson, a former friend of Ms Abrahams, they demanded justice and vowed to protest at every court appearance by Ms Abrahams and Mr. Smith.

"It’s frustrating. Why should they be protected?’’ Ms Anderson said. "Why hide behind bars? They should be made to appear in court.’’

CASE ADJOURNED: Frustration for Kiesha Weippeart supporters 23 Sep 11 @ 10:26am

It was a day that many Kiesha Weippeart supporters were waiting for. But it never came.

Kristi Abrahams, the Mt Druitt mother charged with murdering her six-year-old daughter, was expected to appear via audio video link at Penrith Court today.

Instead, 1000 pages were handed in by the Crown as evidence.

She will now appear via AVL on November 25 after the case was adjourned.

Penrith local court is only about 20-30 mins drive from Silverwater correctional facility where they are being held. Normally, they only do the audio-video link when the inmate has been transferred to a much more distant facility.
But I guess in this case, they are doing it to protect the accused, and to prevent mobs of people from protesting at the courthouse.

Would LOVE to get my hands on those 1000 papers.

From another article......:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Mr Smith's mother Rebecca said she had hoped Kiesha's funeral would have been a special ceremony with the fuss the little girl deserved.

"I think its disgusting she isn't getting a proper funeral like she deserves, I just cant believe it and I'm angry about it," Mrs Smith said.Kiesha's skeletal remains were found in a shallow bush grave in April this year, but ti took the Coroner and fornesic pathologists almost five-months to determine her cause of death, before they could be released for burial.

It sounds to me that Kiesha's funeral service was very special and proper. Although several articles express Mrs. Smith's dissatisfaction with the manner in which Kiesha's funeral service was conducted, it isn't clear whether Robert's parents attended the event. If they weren't invited, she is likely upset and is in no position to say Kiesha did not receive a proper funeral. Mrs. Smith's criticism of Kiesha's service is shameful and very disrespectful. The Chapel was filled with purple flowers and messages of love and a choir of children sang "In the Arms of an Angel" to Kiesha.

Little Kiesha Weippeart laid to rest at last

<snipped>

FAMILY and friends have dressed in purple to honour Kiesha Weippeart at her funeral service this morning.

The North Chapel at Pinegrove Memorial Park in Sydney's west has been filled with purple flowers and messages of love to the six-year-old girl, allegedly murdered last year by her mother and step-father.

At the front of the chapel is a tiny purple coffin - little Kiesha's favourite colour.

A choir of children sang "In the Arms of an Angel" to Kiesha.

"May you find some comfort here," they sang.

Fr Edward Dooley told the 100-strong congregation today marked a day of closure for Kiesha's grieving families.

"It is now time to heal," he said. AMEN

Final farewell as 'little angel' Kiesha laid to rest (includes one photo)

THE road between the North Chapel and Kiesha Weippeart's final resting place is lined with the graves of children.

Under grey skies yesterday, a slow procession followed the hearse carrying the six-year-old's colourful, tiny coffin past the plaques of ''little angels'' who lived just two days, a few weeks; some who made their eighth, ninth or 10th birthdays.

Among the 80 mourners at Pinegrove Memorial Park - many donning Kiesha's favourite colour, purple - were the parents of the Mt Druitt girl's alleged murderers.

''She's our granddaughter. Nothing was going to keep us away,'' Rebecca Smith, whose son Robert is being held on remand for murder, said.

It took more than 14 months to bury Kiesha, allegedly assaulted and murdered by her mother, Kristi Abrahams, and stepfather, Robert Smith, in July last year.

When they reported her missing it sparked a massive police search that culminated in a homicide investigation leading to their arrest in the middle of the night at Shalvey, not far from where police say they dumped her body in a suitcase.

It took another five months to complete the pathology tests on her bones.

Kiesha's disappearance and death attracted national attention and thousands were drawn to the shrine of soft toys and candles that blanketed the fenceline at the home she once shared with her alleged killers.

But it was her biological father, Chris Weippeart, and paternal grandmother Liz, who organised yesterday's ceremony in which no family member spoke.

Instead, a choir of boys and girls wearing purple opened the simple proceedings with a rendition of Sarah McLachlan's Angel and closed it with Coldplay's Fix You.

Kiesha's grave now lies just metres from her brother Ayden's, who died aged six weeks in 2003.

The NSW Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione, said yesterday's burial might bring closure to the family at last.

''There can be nothing sadder to a community, to a nation, than to lose a child particularly in circumstances like this,'' Commissioner Scipione said.

''But from a father's perspective I would say … it must be a terrible thing to have to bury your child.''

This media report contains several videos, photos, and a brief interview with Alison Anderson. It says Kiesha's biological father and grandmother opted for a private funeral despite opposition from family members who wanted a large funeral. The girl's mother and stepfather who are charged with her murder were told about the service but won't be able to attend.

Purple ribbons fly as family farewells Kiesha Weippeart in private funeral

FAMILY and friends surrounded Kiesha Weippeart’s father Chris Weippeart as he entered the north chapel of Pinegrove Memorial Park, at Minchinbury, today to farewell his princess at a private funeral.

Ahead of the ceremony, supporters of the Weippeart family, known as the Purple Army, stood proud in their purple shirts and handed out ribbons in Kiesha’s favourite colour.
The young girl’s coffin, covered in flowers, arrived shortly before the funeral service started.

Media outlets had reporters and photographers around the chapel to capture the emotional day.

Close family and friends released white and purple balloons to mark the occasion.

Kiesha Weippeart went missing from her Mount Druitt home about 15-months ago. After an extensive police investigation her mother Kristi Abrahams, 28, and stepfather Robert Smith, 31, were arrested in April and later charged with the murder of Kiesha, then 6.

A public memorial has been planned for Tuesday, October 4 which grandmother Liz Weippeart said the whole community is welcome to attend, to say goodbye to Kiesha from 10am.

Memorial Service Held for Murdered Kiesha Weippeart

More than 200 people gathered in Sydney's west this morning for a church service to farewell murdered six-year-old Kiesha Weippeart.

Mourners wept inside the Holy Family Church at Mount Druitt as a choir of children sang Hallelujah.

Many of those attending this morning's service helped search for the six-year-old girl when she was reported missing in August last year.

Kiesha Weippeart's remains were found buried in a shallow grave in bushland in April.

The girl's mother and step-father are being tried for her murder.

Her grandmother cried in the church today as friends and family read poems and told stories of the girl's short life.

Father Edmund Dooley told the gathering there had been a great mourning for the girl, and today healing in the hearts of the family and community can take place.

Today's memorial came after a private funeral service for Kiesha Weippeart last week.

Kiesha remembered at memorial service
More than 150 mourners attended the service for the six-year-old at the Holy Family Catholic Church at Emerton near Mt Druitt on Tuesday, Fairfax Radio reported.
They wore Kiesha's favourite colour, purple, as requested on her memorial service facebook page, which contained tributes including, "I will always remember you Kiesha, such a beautiful angel R.I.P".

CASE ADJOURNED: Kiesha supporters stand strong

RAIN didn’t stop supporters of keeping Kiesha Weippeart’s name alive outside Penrith Court.

Standing outside Penrith Court today (Friday), the small group spread the word that abuse against children won’t be tolerated in Mounty County.

While inside court room four, Kristi Abrahams and Robert Smith failed to appear via audio video link.

The Mt Druitt mother charged with murdering her six-year-old daughter was expected to appear, instead the magistrate was told more information in the briefs had be gone through.

The case has now been adjourned to Friday, December 16.

Ms Abrahams and her partner Robert Smith were charged with the murder of the Mt Druitt schoolgirl on April 22, nine months after the youngster was reported missing from the family’s Woodstock Ave unit.

Neither has entered a plea or applied for bail.

Children in Silence lobby group president Alison Anderson knew Kiesha and said she would keep memories of the youngster with her and continue to fight.

``Both should have to appear - it’s been in the court system for seven months now and got nowhere,’’ she said.

``We’re as strong as ever, until the day comes that we get justice.

``Kiesha’s name will never die.’‘

Ms Anderson re-lived April 22, when she got the call of the arrest.

``I felt betrayed - it’s been hard for me to trust again. I was numb when I got that call,’’ she said.

FOSTER children are given a book after they leave their foster family, containing photos and words that capture their time with the family.

Kiesha’s book remains with Philip and Roselyn McKenzie, who looked after the bubbly child from the age of 14 months to three years.

``Kiesha was our first foster child,’’ Mrs McKenzie said. ``Becoming foster parents for the first time, we didn’t know what we were getting into.

``But along came Kiesha. She was only supposed to be with us for a month but the short term stay ended up being 19 months. It was hard to say goodbye and it all ended so quickly.’‘

Foster families are given about a month’s notice that the child will be going back to their parents. The McKenzie family was told one day and the next Kiesha left their home.

``That book never went with Kiesha because we hadn’t finished it,’’ Mrs McKenzie said. ``It feels like it was meant to stay with us.’‘

With five children of their own, the McKenzies said Kiesha was special to them.

The couple said Kiesha turned up at their home with a bag of clothes that she called home.

``She was very much part of the family,’’ Mr McKenzie said. ``Her funeral last week was very hard and extremely emotional.

``Today (the community farewell) feels much happier, and it is a great way for the community to say goodbye.’’
