Police have set up a crime scene on Gundy Road, a remote part of the Upper Hunter Valley after suspected human remains were discovered in a roadside culvert.

Forensic and crime scene specialists are at the Gundy Rd site – outside of Scone – this afternoon after a man and his dog made the discovery about 9am.

The remains were discovered about 15 meters from the road in a culvert, and appear to have been there for some time.....

A forensic examination is needed to confirm the gender of the remains and whether the person had suffered injuries or fractures.

Police are searching Missing Persons Reports as part of the investigation.

Forensic experts are expected to remain at the scene for most of Sunday before the remains will be taken away for a full autopsy.

Detectives from the Hunter Valley are in charge of the investigation.

They haven't said yet if they are a child's remains or an adult.
A bit far to be Sharon Edwards, Grafton, nearly a 500 km drive. Can't see anyone driving that far.
Ok thanks .... "Scone" came up in a search for the Leisl Smith, Wallarah. thread... so I wondered....??? I don't really know those cases....

NSW Police launched Missing Persons Week today .....

The NSW Police Force has launched the 2020 Missing Persons Week campaign, coordinated by the newly-formed Missing Persons Registry, to raise awareness of the issues and impacts surrounding missing persons.

Missing Persons Week is an annual national campaign and will continue until Saturday 8 August 2020.

Following a comprehensive review of operations, the NSW Police Force announced the establishment of the Missing Persons Registry (MPR) and the implementation of a number of new systems and procedures, which came into effect in July last year.

The MPR is comprised of seven detectives and four analysts – including those with qualifications and expertise in psychology and data matching – and work to resolve current long-term missing persons cases and provide assistance to frontline police to improve the initial response to missing persons reports.
NSW Police Commissioner Fuller said substantial improvements have been made since the establishment of the Missing Persons Registry, particularly in relation to the resolution of missing persons cases.

“To have a loved one go missing has a devastating impact on family, friends and the wider community, and while police do an outstanding job in providing support for the families, we are also committed to providing answers,” Commissioner Fuller said.

“The Missing Persons Registry was created to ensure the NSW Police Force consistently delivers better outcomes for the families of missing persons.

“Since its inception last year, reviews conducted by the Missing Persons Registry have led to 57 long-term missing people being located.

A Police Detective Inspector for the Hunter Valley said it is likely the remains belong to an adult.

He said “It’s difficult to tell, but there’s no indication it’s a baby, we believe it’s an adult,”

Police are unable to confirm if the remains have been left in the culvert, or whether recent heavy rainfall has washed the remains down the hillside.

Police are hoping to be able to identify the deceased after completing a post-mortem examination.

Mystery continues to surround the discovery of human bones stuffed into a roadside drain in country New South Wales.

Forensic officers and crime scene specialists searched the scene well into Sunday night before returning early on Monday to continue in the hunt for more clues.

At this stage it is not known whether the remains belong to a male or female, or what if any injuries the person had suffered.

It is hoped the remains could be linked to several missing persons cases in the area.

I found a Garry John Wells missing since 2010 from Muswellbrook, which is 29km from Scone.

Garry John WELLS

Found a bunch of other so far but this is the closest adult I've found to Scone.
Some other missing people were over 120km away.

UPDATE: Post mortem conducted today on remains found at Scone

HUNTER Valley Police District officers will have a clearer picture of what they're dealing with this week, after suspected human remains were found at Scone at the weekend.

A post mortem is being conducted with the Department of Forensic Medicine at Newcastle on Tuesday, August 4.

"We're hoping the examination will help us to identify the remains, as well as assist with a cause of death," Chief Inspector Guy Guiana APM said.

Yes RIP .....

Does anyone know how old Google Streetview is/ For country NSW?
There were major road works on Gundy Road at the time of filming.... I don't think the railings around the culvert were there at the time?
So thinking recent in terms of years..... for the poor person that is deceased ....

I've found streetview for some parts of country NSW like my town is quite old.
I've seen pics of my house and a friends house which were from a few years ago, complete with a car that my friend owned at least 4 years prior.
And mine with the street tree still there that got vandalised and removed years ago.

Behind a paywall.

Isn't that sad, he was missing for 8 months and seems nobody noticed he was missing , or nobody cared.

RIP Anthony
