A prominent crocodile specialist from Darwin has pleaded guilty to dozens of charges of bestiality involving the torture, rape and killing of pet dogs.

A suppression order had hidden the identity of Adam Robert Corden Britton, a zoologist who has built an international reputation for his work on crocodiles over decades, since his arrest last year. However, that has now been lifted.

Britton is facing 60 charges relating to bestiality and possessing, accessing, and transmitting child abuse material.

Britton pleaded guilty to 37 counts of animal cruelty causing serious harm or death, 10 counts of raping or attempting to rape dogs, four counts of possessing or transmitting child abuse material, animal cruelty, breaching duty of care to his own dogs Bolt and Ursa, and using a carriage service in an offensive manner, the NT News reports.

He has been remanded in custody and will return to court for sentencing later.

I cannot even begin to form the words.

Yes I can, in a just world this man would take a fatal trip and fall into a pit of very very hungry crocodiles. the end

poor doggos
I don't know what is worse - torturing his own for years or killing others

firing squad for him
is all I'm gonna say

we need to be so cautious about who we allow to access our pets

This is the most personally upsetting case I have ever come across.

I am very concerned that Australia and the Northern Territory dont have sufficient laws to punish this man, and particularly to ensure he is never released and unable to ever do this again, which he almost certainly would.

Crimes against animals don't seem to be treated very seriously.

All the animal cruelty stuff will be little more than a slap on the wrist, unfortunately
The CSAM might be a different story

Horrendous. Those poor animals my heart breaks for them. Now safe from harm at Rainbow Bridge.
R.I.P. and my thoughts with all those impacted by these terrible crimes.

As for the person responsible well, a scene from Game of Thrones springs to mind.

Why is it like that?

And how can we change this?

Excellent points!

Here in the UK, in 2021, the maximum sentences for animal cruelty were increased from six months to five years. Still not enough IMO but a step in the right direction. I'm aware of one person who got the maximum sentence; he subsequently died in prison which could be interpreted as karma! In another recent case involving a cat that broke my heart, the person responsible got 27 months and a lifetime ban from keeping animals; he also got a 10 year restraining order preventing him from contacting the cat's owner (ex-girlfriend). He should have got the full five years IMO.

Thank you, im glad to here of an improvement somewhere. Do you know how it came about?

Was it natural causes or prison justice?

How enforceable is a lifetime animal ownership ban do you think? Do they for example routinely inspect property the banned own and or live at?
This man has admitted to abusing animals he didn't own also, so that is an issue.

Animal charities have been campaigning for it for years.

Natural causes I believe.

He was jailed for what he did to his gf's cat (I won't go into detail here) while they were living together. I think it's safe to say he is prohibited from either owning or keeping (as in being in charge of or caring for) any animal for the rest of his worthless life. People don't forget these things, RSPCA and other animal welfare networks will keep tabs on him and I got the impression online that some former friends and quite a few complete strangers would like to have a few words with him when he gets out. I don't think it will be the last time he'll get in trouble with the law either. He will also have to declare his conviction when applying for jobs and so forth.

I believe there may be several charges. What about posting it online? Is it agitation for animal cruelty? I wonder if one could charge consecutively not simultaneously? The fact that he made different photos in advance means premeditation.

One thing that strikes me, is something I've read over and over: many serial killers started by torturing animals before they graduated to murdering humans.....

I hope the authorities there probe his background and movements in great detail.

So that's not working very well then. :(

To clarify - I meant they campaigned prior to the increase in 2021, but I'd like to see it increased further.

I've seen sites that name and shame people who are cruel to animals, and I've seen at least one petition for a public register of people banned from keeping animals. I don't know if there is any kind of official register for use by the police, RSPCA, etc.

I don't see how the judge can just give him a slap on the wrist and a couple of years in prison. I read a description of one of the videos and words cannot describe that level of sustained cruelty, sadism and perversion. Depraved is an understatement. A normal human being couldn't even conceive of some of the acts that he did, never mind turn them into reality and then distribute the videos all over the internet. I think the judge will find a way to give him a very long sentence - maybe by sentencing each charge separately to run consecutively, like Charlot123 suggested.

The fact that he watched videos of child abuse is also of utmost concern as many of those who abuse animals have been shown to move on to humans, as people on websleuths are aware. There is no way the judge will let this man go free.

Adam Britton is a sick, sick man.
