TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -
An ex-wife recants an alibi, now former Tucson Firefighter David Watson is on trial for three murders.

The death of Linda Watson in 2000 and the 2003 murders of her mother Marilyn Cox and her friend Renee Farnsworth were cases that had gone cold until Watson's second wife admitted the alibi she gave Watson was a lie.

Murder suspect's ex-wife: "I can't tell you an exact time"

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The attorney for former Tucson Firefighter David Watson worked hard to undermine the testimony of the key witness against him, the ex-wife who gave Watson an alibi, then took it away years later.

Watson is accused of killing his first ex-wife in 2000.

Three years later in 2003, he is also accused of gunning down his ex-mother in law and her friend while they sat on the front porch of their home.

Daughter of former Tucson fire captain to take stand in murder trial
Friday, October 21st 2016, 2:22 pm EDT

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The trial of the Tucson man accused of killing three women more than 10 years ago continued Friday with testimony from his daughter.

Prosecutors claim Watson killed the women over a child custody dispute.

Jordynn Watson, who was 4-year-old when David and Linda divorced, is expected to take the stand Friday.

After updates on the first couple of weeks of the trial. I'm not so sure we have a murder for Linda Watson. She was known to just run off. Skull was found, no other body parts and the skull had no signs of homicide. It was found in an area that she liked to go to parties in the desert and had attended one there just the week before. I think we better give this one some more time.

I can't find updates, either. This article is three weeks old, but I hadn't seen it.

Murder trial: Linda Watson talked of suicide
David Watson's defense team works to raise doubts
by Craig Smith posted 6:28 PM, Oct 20, 2016; updated 10:41 AM, Oct 21, 2016

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Linda Watson sometimes talked of running away or even committing suicide. That was the testimony Thursday in the murder trial of her ex-husband, former Tucson Firefighter David Watson.

Carl Barton, known as JR dated Linda Watson for about two and a half years after she divorced David Watson.

He described her as such a heavy drinker he was prepared to testify that she should not have custody of her daughter . . . (she) talked of just running away . . . she said she would shoot herself at one point . . .

Watson's defense has been trying to convince the jury someone other than David Watson was responsible for LInda Watson's disappearance.

Disparaging the victim. :sigh:

Following the case from inside the court room. I don't believe Watson had anything to do with it. Should go to the jury today.

Opening statements in former Tucson Fire captain's second triple-murder trial

http://www.tucsonnewsnow.com/story/34348840/opening-statements-in-former-tucson-fire-captains-second-triple-murder-trial

In opening statements, the defense argued Watson had an alibi, in the murders of Cox and Farnsworth.

Watson's attorney also told the jury there's no proof Linda Watson was murdered.

During his opening, the prosecutor told the jury Watson had motive because he was involved in a custody battle with his ex-wife, over their daughter, when she died.

The prosecutor also said Watson had lost a court fight over visitation with his ex-mother-in-law when she was killed alongside her friend.

Watson's second ex-wife, Rosemary, was the first to take the stand for the prosecution Wednesday.

Defense lawyer Michael Storie told the jurors the case “boils down to the credibility of Rosemary Watson.”

Rosemary Watson provided an alibi for her then-husband David Watson for the 2000 and 2003 incidents, but recanted her account shortly after their 2007 divorce.

Prosecutor Jonathan Mosher urged the jurors to view Rosemary Watson not as a jilted lover, but as a person who struggled to believe what her husband told her.

After a harsh verbal exchange with David Watson, Rosemary Watson went to a detective with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and said her ex-husband was not at home during either of the incidents, Mosher said.

The question Storie posed to the jurors was whether Rosemary Watson was lying when she provided an alibi to David Watson or when she told investigators she lied about the alibi.
