AZ - Toddler, 21 months, 911 called from CVS parking lot, dies later after being abused for over long period of time, Glendale, 8 Feb 2024 *arrests*

According to court records, Francisco Javier Felix Higuera and Maria Isabel Machado Perez drove a 21-month-old boy to a CVS pharmacy on Thursday because he was not moving and not breathing. The boy had bruises all over his body and cuts on his head, face and groin area. Firefighters were called and they took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Higuera and Perez were taken into custody and police asked them how the boy got injured. Higuera initially said they were in a car crash “about 10 to 15 days ago” where they were rear-ended on the freeway, but later admitted that was a lie and that he was covering for Perez, according to police.

Turns out, Perez was rear-ended by a hit-and-run driver and the boy was not in a car seat or wearing a seatbelt. Higuera told investigators that is how he got bruises on his face.

Higuera was questioned again the next day as police showed him the boy’s autopsy results, which revealed that he was abused over a long period of time. Higuera then admitted to throwing the boy about four feet above the ground and into a crib on the day they took the boy to the CVS pharmacy, police said. He did this because the boy’s full diaper broke and he was covered in feces, according to court paperwork. That’s when the boy started throwing up. Police also said he beat the boy with a belt on his chest and backside.

A video from Higuera’s cellphone taken on Thursday morning showed the child didn’t have any bruises on his face, but another video taken around 6 p.m. showed bruises on his face and body, according to police.

Higuera was arrested and booked into jail on charges of first-degree murder and child abuse. Perez was arrested and faces a child abuse charge since police said she allowed the abuse to happen and didn’t give the boy medical care when he needed it.

An autopsy performed on the child on Friday found "injuries appeared consistent with being cause by abuse over a prolonged period of time," and included genital and head damage, along with bruises consistent with being struck with a belt.

Court documents stated the main injuries that caused the boy's death was a laceration to his liver and a detached bowel that both created fatal internal bleeding.

Why are people still having children in this day and age when they obviously do not want them and do not have the ability to provide for them.

I believe cases like these are going to start happening even more now that access to abortion has been restricted or removed in so many places.
People who do not want or cannot care for children have been having them since the dawn of time. At least it's harder to get away with it these days.

It is not uncommon for CVS to have a clinic inside, this location seems to only do immunizations but they could have thought there was a clinic that would likely buy their bs story of the car accident, I am sure they knew the abuse would be spotted and reported and were trying to stay under the radar. They were also unmarried so I think having kids was ( the shared 6 mo old) was to keep together and she may have been getting government assistance. I do not think the baby boom is due to lack of contraception , but to lack of choosing to use it.

Yes, people have to really put the child first and be cautious about who they let into their life. Over the years I’ve seen so many boyfriends and girlfriends who have abused and killed their lover’s child. The stories keep piling up.
