Another thing that I noticed but did not mention was that the remains were found west of the 15 freeway near Zzyzx road. That would be more suggestive of a perp coming from the southwest-bound side of the 15 (i.e., from Nevada). Anyone coming from Southern California probably (although not definitely) would have exited into the area East of the 15.

Right - they would exit East -- say I was going to Vegas from San Diego. West indicates the traveller was coming from Nevada (towards California).

Such a desolate area, IMHO, means a body dump.

Dad and I were just talking about this strech of road a few days ago. He always remembers the cars that overheat on that long uphill stretch (I think it's towards the Vegas side several miles east of this exit).

I think, for whatever it's worth, whoever it was that left the body was in a hurry because they didn't take the time to go gurther into the desert for a desolate location.

I can see senarios for someone travling on either side of the highway. If you're leaving Vegas it's the last obvious hidden spot before Los Angeles. On the other hand, if you're leaving Los Angeles it's the first obvious hiding spot.

Sortof random side-comment... That exit is locally somewhat infamous for its desolate nature as well as its spelling. So much so, in fact, that it was featured as a crime scene in an episode of CSI:Las Vegas in 2006.

I stopped for a quick look on my way back from Cali this weekend. As desolate as can be with absolutely no buildings around, unlike many other exits who have old abandoned gas stations or ranches near the road.

I dont think we can assume the direction of travel from the fact the body was found West of the highway. There is an overpass right there at the exit so you can easily go either way and quickly get back to the I-15. Going west/north is definitely the way to go if you plan to burn a body as it is hilly with more elevation differences. On the east/south side, it is flat and you can see the highway traffic a long way away.

I did a good 20mins of jogging around on the south side maybe 1/3 of a mile from the exit and other than 2 old rusted cans, I could not find any signs of human presence. Even the usual trash of plastic bags and cans was difficult to find.

We stopped by at 2pm on a Monday and there were two big rig trucks stopped there (one on each side of the overpass) so a napping trucker might be the best bet to have seen something suspicious.

Do they know or can find out how long she has been dead (months?) and pinpoint it better. Do they have mtDNA on this Jane Doe? Did any one find out more information on her? NAMUS says a large number of fragments from dental bridging material were recovered. What do they mean by that?

I've driven through this area. I'm tempted to think it was a woman who met with foul play in Las Vegas by someone who lives in the Los Angeles area & that person dumped her on the California side either out of convenience or the idea that she would never be found in a timely manner in this remote area.

The narrative says the body was found west of I'15. But I-15 runs in a Northeast/Southwest direction. So that sounds like it would be on the opposite side of I-15 from the Desert Studies Center.

BTW, I posted these on a different thread, but I'll post them here too. These are photos of Zzyzx road about a mile from the Desert Studies Center that I took back in 2011 when I was returning from Las Vegas. I pulled off the highway to take a few photos.

I take it to mean that she had some sort of bridge or appliance in her mouth but it was too broken to tell where it was in her mouth. Or maybe they just don't want to say.
