Thanks to all of the posts by Unalienable Rights, I've taken notice of all the missing teens out of Bakersfield, and have been really bothered by it. I'm glad to have found that I'm not the only one shocked by the volume.
Before I found this thread, I wasn't sure if this was actually out of the ordinary or if there was some sort of bias in play as to what I'm seeing and noticing. I'm still not sure how much of this is from BPD's policy to report all first-time missing children (ie. including those believed or known to have run away) as at-risk--I don't know if that is normal for a law enforcement agency, especially with teenagers. But as I said, I was bothered, so I started gathering the basics on all of the teens reported missing out of Bakersfield since the start of 2023. I honestly thought I might be able to share it in the table function here, but it is ~121 children 9-19. This is from Websleuths, MSM, the CA AG, NamUs, and NCMEC.
Just in 2024 it is 30 children.
I threw together a chart on how many children were reported missing in the last 7 days (and the last 14 days) just to see if anything stood out, and there was a visible increase in the end of February 2024. Not sure what to make of it.

‘Come back home’: Families hope their missing loved ones will return after return of 11-year-old Bakersfield girl
The case is bringing one local family hope as their loved one, 14-year-old Jestenia Guevara, has been missing for over a week.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — With the recent disappearance of an 11-year-old Bakersfield girl found in Utah, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies found she had an online relationship with a 29-year-old man accused of taking her.
This is becoming a trend in Kern County, according to Sheriff Donny Youngblood.
“Without fail, we get people that come here from across the country thinking they are going to meet a juvenile for sex when, in fact, they are meeting a police officer,” said Youngblood.
This case is one of more than 40 missing children reports 17 News has received since January from Kern County law enforcement.

I suspect this is not the only city having such problems. Maybe Bakersfield is doing a better job at listing every case and quickly in NamUs whereas other cities are not acting as quickly? JMO.

Bakersfield rarely lists in NamUs or in NCMEC, they usually don't even list with the CA Attorney General's missing person archive.

Sorry if I assumed incorrectly about that. I thought I recalled seeing numerous cases in NamUs. I wish there was a law requiring every reported missing person's case be added, so that trends would be easy to track, and no case falls between the cracks.

In the FAQ for NamUs, it says:
I can’t find the law for California, but I believe the discrepancy is in part because LE is only required to enter people who have been missing for upwards of 30 days.

This is a weird thing to say, and I wish the article included more on this. In the referenced case, a person came across the country to meet a juvenile for sex and did not meet a police officer, they abducted the juvenile.
Is the Kern County Sheriff running regular stings and they just aren’t talking about them? Do they have a program where juveniles report when an adult is coming to meet up with them and that also isn’t being talked about?
