Sacramento County Pays $4M Settlement to Boy Who Survived Torture

Sacramento County has agreed to pay a $4 million settlement to a young man on behalf of Child Protective Services. The man, known publicly as “Kyle Doe,” was tortured for more than a year in a home in Tracy. Court documents reveal Doe was chained to a fireplace grate, shackled at the ankles, cut with knives, burned with chemicals and denied adequate food and water.

“He was burned with chemicals, he was struck with a baseball bat, where he was branded where he was cut so pretty horrific,” Doe’s lawyer, John Demas, said Thursday. “It really boggles the mind that people can do something like that to a young child.”

Doe finally escaped in December 2008 and ran to a nearby gym, where he was able to get help. Four people were ultimately arrested, convicted and sentenced to 30 years behind bars.

Glad to hear he's in junior college, awarded all this money which can pay for college, and getting his life back on track. This article cleared up a big mystery for me. Apparently his mom was a single mom who died. That's how he ended up getting passed around, but it's a shame his aunt was never contacted.
