The brutal, 1994 stabbing murder of Cal State Fullerton student Cathy Torrez, has been partly resolved today. Cathy's ex-boyfriend, Sam Lopez, has just been found guilty of her murder.
Cathy went missing February 12, 1994, and a workmate said Cathy had said she was going to meet her on/off boyfriend, Sam Lopez. They both lived in Placentia, California. Cathy's body was found a week later in the trunk of her own car at Placentia Yorba Linda Hospital, with 74 vicious stab wounds to her neck and wrists.
I have covered Cathy's case on Bob Harrod's website, which includes mainstream media links: http://www.bobharrodmissing.com/news.html#placentia-unsolved
And here is the latest media link for the verdict: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/torrez-652868-placentia-jury.html
Sam Lopez's cousin, Xavier Lopez (whose DNA was the only one found in the car) is being tried separately and no verdict has been reached on his case yet.
Cathy's family have worked tirelessly to bring her killers to justice and I'm glad they now have some rewards for their efforts.
