Identified! CA - El Monte, Human remains in shallow grave, May'11- Hong Tu Phuong

Since the tipster was arrested I wonder if the woman may have the same last name? Not sure what nationality Huynh would be but I'm also wondering if this man had a wife.

I found three missing women named Hyunh but the cases may all be too recent to be called old remains and none are close geographically. San Jose is the nearest but even that is five hours away according to google maps. I am also not sure if they're still missing or if they've been located. Only one is in the age range given but Vancouver's pretty far.

Police Monday night released a photo of a man they say led them to a body in a back yard in El Monte.

They also said the victim was a woman.

They did not give the man’s relation to the victim.

The man, identified as 27-year-old Johnny Huynh of Rosemead

according to sheriff's inmate records.
A Rosemead resident, Huynh lived at the townhouse about nine years ago, said sheriff's Detective Boyd Zumwalt.

So the body has been there at least 10 years and this man was just 18 when he did this?

Dew, I'm thinking you may be correct when you listed Maria Chavez above, because it says she was living in El Monte when she came up missing in May 2009 & articles say these remains are several years old. There was another case sorta like this a few weeks back when the remains of Gloria Cave were found in a backyard in California. Her husband is being extradited back to the US from the Philipines, where he fled after killing her & quickly sold the house. He even poured coffee grounds over her to mask the smell. If you look up the address on google, and move the mouse around to the back of the house, you can see a photo of it before the new renters moved in & see the big cactus planter he buried her under.

Disappeared about an hour away from El Monte in 2002. Age fits...do we know any other characteristics about woman whose body was found (i.e., height, weight, etc.)? Don't recall seeing it but haven't reread the thread either.

Yea, that's what I figured too. I just can't figure out how no one missed her all these years...

A 30-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 26 years to life in prison for killing his mother and burying her body in the yard of the rented condominium they shared.

A jury convicted John Taylor Huynh of Rosemead in March of stabbing his mother, Hong Tu Phuong, to death, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office...

Huynh testified that he moved out of the condominium a week after killing his mother and gave excuses about her whereabouts, telling people she had moved to Vietnam or died of cancer, prosecutors said.

I know that I'm late to this discussion, but the surname Huynh is Vietnamese. I have a coworker with the same surname.
