Sentencing date set for robbers

Jaime Ramos and Pablo Ruvalcaba will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to murder in Stockton's Bank of the West robbery in 2014.

Judge Bernard Garber on Monday morning set sentencing for Feb. 6. The two men pleaded guilty Dec. 2 to the murder of 41-year-old hostage Misty Holt-Singh.

Ramos, 22, will spend the rest of his life in prison. Ruvalcaba, 23, agreed to a deal that will put him behind bars for 25 years to life.

Lengthy prison terms for pair in Bank of the West robbery

Jaime Ramos and Pablo Ruvalcaba, who previously pleaded guilty to their roles in a bank robbery and hostage taking 2½ years ago that left hostage Misty Holt-Singh and two accomplices dead, were formally sentenced this morning.

Ramos, 22, will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. Ruvalcaba, who drove the three robbers to the bank that fateful July 16, 2014, and left the scene, took a plea deal for 25 years to life for his role.

Holt-Singh's family was full of tears before the sentencing Tuesday in a Stockton courtroom. Some of them, including Holt-Singh's mother, read victim impact statements before the sentencing.

"My daughter was taken from me," Holt-Singh's mother said as she broke down in tears. "My life will never be the same without my Misty."

Holt-Singh's husband, Paul Singh, also took the stand to read a victim impact statement.

"I received a text from my daughter: 'Dad leave work, the bank was robbed. They took mom,'" Singh said. "They deprived my daughter of her mother. She has no one to tell her how to do her hair, put on her makeup or get ready for her first dance."
