CANADA CANADA - 83 Missing & Murdered women of Edmonton, Alberta

Seems there's been a break in the case of Colleen MacMillen, one of the Highway of Tears cases. DNA matched to a suspect, 60 y.o. Bobby Jack Fowler of Oregon, who died in prison in 2006.

RCMP will hold a news conference in Surrey BC tomorrow at 11:15 am Pacific Time

VANCOUVER -- Mounties in B.C. will announce on Tuesday a significant investigation into 18 missing and murdered women along the so-called Highway of Tears, in a plea for more information.

It has long been speculated that one or more serial killers might be at work along the stretch of road on Highway 16 between Prince Rupert and Prince George in southern B.C.

The announcement is expected to span two days, with initial details revealed Tuesday morning and subsequent announcements by investigators in Prince George and Kamloops detachments the next day

Bobby Jack Fowler has been named as a suspect in a number of homicides in Canada and the United States over the past four decades. Oregon Police have confirmed he is linked to at least one 'Highway of Tears' case.

In B.C. several women have been killed along Highways 16, 97 and 5. The 'Highway of Tears' is a 800-km section of Highway 16 where a number of young women have gone missing or been found dead.

Late on Monday night, the Lincoln County District Attorney's Office, in Oregon, released new information in the ongoing investigation of cold case homicides from the 1990s

"Shinkaruk said Fowler was transient and travelled between U.S. states and countries, sometimes in a single day, working odd jobs in areas like roofing and general labour.

"He stayed and lived in motels or rented, and liked old cars that he drove until they quit," he said. "He frequented bars and restaurants and was violent toward men and women and picked up hitchhikers."

Wish we knew which motel Amber had stayed at in Nisku. Might give us more of an idea the type of area dude was hanging in. When I get some time, I'll try to piece something together re the gas station seen behind the RCMP spokesperson in the video. IIRC, he indicated that Amber had disappeared from the area he was standing.

Wonder if it was this one, approx $78.00 per night near airport?

"Amber’s brother, Billy Joe Tuccaro stressed the importance of addressing the larger problem of violence against First Nations women.

“We need to take this problem very serious. All of society has to be aware that our women are not just vanishing into thin air. This needs serious and immediate action as this is a national tragedy from coast to coast,” he said.

Snip.
Insight into what an inquiry might focus on was offered by Muriel Stanley Venne, founder of the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women.

“The question that needs to be answered by the inquiry is ‘Why?’ Why is it that indigenous women are being murdered on a regular basis?” said Venne, who recalled listing more than 100 names of missing women in 1997 and finding little support"

Sorry to intrude here but I have been following this case. I can't help but hear their voices from the car,all the time, since the media release. I can't understand why there are no leads? The way he says "Absolutely" must be familiar to someone?

No intrusion, glad you have been following the thread!
I know what you mean about listening for a similiar voice, but I guess if not many people "tune in" it will be difficult to narrow the voice down to that one "absolutely". Maybe there is some action and suspects behind the scenes and LE has some poi in mind. I wonder if the perp is from the area and what ethnicity he is likely to be as that might help narrow things down.

Police in Edmonton are looking for someone whom many people are calling a serial killer, targeting women. They have released a profile of a man they believe has killed several prostitutes and have offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

The profile prepared by the RCMP's Behavioural Science Branch suggests he:

Drives a reliable, high-mileage truck, van or sport utility vehicle, and is comfortable driving in rural areas.
Likes to hunt, fish, camp or participate in other outdoor activities.
Has a past or present connection to the area south of Edmonton, including Leduc, Camrose and New Sarepta.
May clean his vehicle at odd times of the day.

Since 1983, the bodies of more than 20 Edmonton women have been found. All are described by police as being prostitutes or having high-risk lifestyles and only five of the cases have been solved.

Good to keep these possible traits in mind...

Intrude? Not at all ... thank you for "intruding" then :) !! Wish more people would.

Yes, the way he says the word "absolutely" does stand out, and the tape is such a critical piece of evidence. Hopefully LE will have had tips as a result of it.

Thanks for re-posting that profile dotr. As in the past, I would like to add that, at one time, that same profile also included the activity of "farming" and the hamlet of "Hay Lakes".

It bugs me that those two specifics were somehow excluded when they had initially been included.

BTW dotr ... did I ever tell you that you're a real brick? :)

EDMONTON - QMI Agency has learned a recent homicide involving the gruesome discovery of a head in a north-end alley and a body found near Ranfurly, Alta., is gang related.

Sources said a message to a rival criminal was the motive behind the head and body, discovered 120 km apart this week"

Snip

"For those living in the area where the head was found, violent crime is not new, but the discovery is horrifying.

Edmonton has seen multiple mutilation homicides over the years. Most recently, Misty Ward was found dismembered in an apartment on 83 Street and Jasper Avenue"
