CANADA - Elisa Lam (21) - Los Angeles - 31-Jan-2013 -TIMELINE & MEDIA ONLY

The alarm system would have rung continuously until it was turned off using a special key, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A sign warning the door is alarmed is posted and it is unclear who had access to the key to shut it off.

Moore said the eight-foot-high tank in which Lam’s body was found after she’d been missing for three weeks had ladders on the outside and hatches without locks on the top. There were no ladders inside the tanks.

The opening at the top of the cistern is too small to accommodate firefighters and equipment, so they had to cut a hole in the storage tank to recover Lam’s body.

The cisterns are on a platform at least three metres above the roof.

To get to the tanks, someone would have to go to the top floor then take a staircase with a locked door and emergency alarm preventing roof access.

Another ladder would have to be taken to the platform and a person would have to climb the side of the tank.

Lopez said there are no security cameras on the roof.

An autopsy was completed on Thursday but the case of death has been "deferred, pending additional tests," said Ed Winter, L.A. County assistant chief coroner.

The office is waiting for results of blood, urine and toxicology tests that are expected in six to eight weeks. Until then, the coroner won't be releasing any partial or preliminary information, he said.

"What was in her system? Were all the organs functioning right? ... Any prescriptions, was she on meds within a therapeutic level or did she take too many or was there none?" said Winter in explaining what the coroner is looking for.

Canadian journalist went to Lam’s home Friday. Lam’s father, still grieving over his daughter’s death, had no comments about the upcoming funeral.
